OK...it can all stop now, I surrender, I swear I do (my week plus)

Sadly, the result would have been the same, animal control would not come for a lion and the Dept of Wildlife officers (if they got around to showing up) would have put her down too. We are extremely over populated with lions here. You can get "nuisance permits" to shoot them when come up around your house. There are just too many of them and not enough hunting ground for them all. We have a huge wild cat park about 5 miles from my house (Lions, Tigers, Moutain Lion, Jaguars, Leopards and etc etc) and at night when it is real quiet..if he is in the mood, the big male lion roars and you can hear it inside my house....almost as if he is right down the road. Scared the heck out of me when I first moved here. He roared about 3 am and I stood straight up and said "Honey, there's a lion outside" he laughed at me until the next day when he found out there was one outside...just a few miles away. LOL he is gorgeous too. I go to that cat park so much I should just go to work for them. 2 years ago my Saddlebred, Doc passed away of old age (28 years old) and it was Dec, 14th, frozen ground and etc...no way to bury him. As I believe in the circle of life and death, once enriches and nourishes the other, the Cat park was contacted and they came and picked him up. He was used to feed the cats for a couple of weeks.

Some may say that is cruel and heartless, but his death provided life for another animal. Afterall, the body is merely a shell that holds the spirit of the animal/human anyway.

I love Big Cats..I really do. I have a huge one tattooed on my hip (Siberian Tiger) and absolutely think they are magnificient. We had a mama and 2 year old at our other house that came right up to the sliding glass door.

Rainbow Eggs Would it be too late to suggest an automatic garage door opener?

Yup have one and two mobile ones in the vehicles...problem was she was sitting under the one inside the garage. That thought did occur to me immediately was "Let her out".

I actually hugged my husband and walked over to her and apologized. Then I cried for a couple of hours. Then...reality check hit and I was a basket case of nerves for the next day and a half.

My buddy who was jumped by a mt lion hunting shot it out of the air as it jumped at him.

He has a cool story to tell now but he wasn't able to talk for three days. He stayed 50 yards away from the body even while the rest of us skinned it.

Good on you, Cetawin! Sorry about Doc, though.

Thanks ranchhand...I miss him. He was such a sweetie...would do anything you asked of him..he even starred in a couple of movies prior to me getting him. Funny thing...that evening at feeding time, he was ubber affectionate and nuzzly; really putting on the show that he was not quite ready for me to leave yet. I stayed with him for over an hour and went inside. I have always felt that he was saying goodbye sort of like he knew. I got a funny feeling about 2 hours later and went out to check on him. He was standing snoozing quietly so I went back inside and not an hour later the mare started going off and when I went out, Doc was down...he would not get up. I tried for a good 50 minutes to get him up, DH tried to help me get him up off the frozen ground and he would not. So, I told DH to call the vet and I sat down on the ground and put his head in my lap, covered him with his blankie and talked to him. He went about 10 minutes later...just fell asleep.

I have never had any regrets...he had a great life and lots of love.

Gorwn man crying here!! You did the right thing all the way around. It is what you must do, love them, care for them and let them go. I understand about the Mountain Lion. We have similar issue here with Fox. They are beutiful, but there are too many and they kill peoples livestock.
