Ok, not sure if this is "nesting" or not

dust bathing for sure

i think it is hilarious when they stand up .... makes me think of Andy Duphraine in Shawshank Redemption ... like shaking tons of dirt from their pockets

You should see ours when they first get out in the mornings. They wag their tails and slowly lower themselves sideways onto the ground with their neck feathers all held up and their wings held out. Oh, they're so cute!

Ours drop and roll for their dust bath in several places. Doesn't matter if the soil is damp or completely dry. They started doing this at about 3 wks in their brooder with pine shavings. It startled me at first. I thought they were having some sort of fit. They've re-arranged the dirt in their yard several times. Keeps them happy and busy. Usually IF they're outside and the "urge" hits one, they run into their yard, coop and into a box where they quite often leave an egg.

My chickens love to take a dust bath on the floor of my green house. Hubby & I use it for pantings some times but the rest of the time the dirt in there is dry & in the spring when it's chilly or like now when it's already cool it's nice & warm in their. They LOVE it & my rooster loves to hear himself crow while in there. ha just like a guy who like to hear himself huh?

As far as lying around mine actually lie on the deck to sun bath it's too funny really & yes there are many times where they've stopped me in my tracks thinking there was something wrong w/them. But they're just taking in the sun....
