sorry, I feel for you, your neighbor is obviously coocoo for coco puffs, we had to shoot a cat a week or so ago, however it was definetly feral and in the chicken coop. (must have noticed the little peeps) I don't mind cats but letting them roam is too irresponsible and definetly a nusaince to everyone (enviroment included), not to mention the parasites it brings with it. I'm not talking about cute fat fluffy house cats, I mean minature panther types. If your neighbor cared about the cat they would keep it away from your place, I wonder if they are up to date on vacinations and all, doubt it. I'm thinking worms too....ug.
Unfortunately, it seems your only option is to very quietly trap and remove it, you prob won't have to lie about anything since they likely won't talk to you...please be careful about petting this thing - if it's anything like it's owner, you could get a nasty bite.
Why don't you shop on line for a better price on the traps, I know they are way overpriced, try hunting outfitters too, they carry diff sizes of traps and maybe you can reuse it for chicks or something in the future, domestic cats are usually pretty stupid about traps, so maybe it will be easy to lure.

If you can't afford a box trap buy a leg hold trap - they are cheaper - if you live in an area where you can't shoot it then get rid of it another way - but as far as cats killing birds and other small animals this is fact and can't be disputed - when you watch a cat that is outside all it does is hunt - I know there are a lot of cat lovers around who just don't want to admit the truth - I have read many studies that have been done with regard to the large amount of birds and animals that cats kill every year - I wish I had a nickel for all the cats that I have disposed of over the years - and I will continue to do it - if you own a cat keep it in your own yard or house and not in I'm - then to those that say - why harm the cat it is not its fault that it is doing was nature has put into the cat - it's the owners fault don't blame the cat - well - you can't get rid of the owner - can you - once I watched a pair of robins that had a nest in one of my schrubs - they worked all day feeding the 4 little birds that they were rearing - then they got old enough to fly out of the nest and landed on the ground I saw a cat bounce on one which couldn't fly good enough to get away - the cat was a neighbors and was well feed - it just killed for the fun of it - it wasn't hungary -signed Joe the Cat Lover

Whoever put up those signs was an immature *%#. As someone who has had a pet slip out of the house and disappear, never to know what happened to it, that isn't amusing at all. (And yes I have a sense of humor, but that is just wrong to do to someone who is distressed and missing a beloved pet.) ...To the other poster that keeps suggesting ways to kill the cat, the OP already said that isn't what they want to do!

too funny war chicken -I agree, cats are a nuisance, and just doing what is natural is why they need to be restricted. Instead of empty the litter box yourself, let it crap in your neighbors chickens dust bathing spot...
The problem is most places do have leash laws on cats that the irresponsible owners ignore and pretend don't exist. Stupid people, and now I have to deal with a little beagle somebody dumped out, that I am guessing is pregnant - again prob cause the owners didn't get it fixed and animal shelters aren't taking any more now...and I already have 4 large dogs that have it 'cornered' under the poarch....I wish it were a cat.
PS
my sil said he wants a beagle, and he's coming up for hunting season (SURPRIZE!) christmas came early....haha

Its advantage is that it doesn't look like a trap. Just put it where the neighbors can't see it.

Like other animals, cats can become trap-wary so some people have resorted to drop traps. KFC original recipe is recommended as a bait for hard-to-trap cats as well. I don't think you'll be able to trap the cat an indefinite number of times so a permanent solution will have to be found.

Confronting cat owners is usually a waste of time and only makes you the prime suspect when a coyote or car kills their cat. It's best to just quietly disappear them while outwardly appearing to not mind loose cats.

thank God you dont want to kill it. i love almost all animals but, all animals can be some kind of trouble from time to time their just animals. i have 2 cats that i love as a matter of fact sassy right now is jumping up here on my deskwhile im typing here. that is bothering me actually drives me NUTS cause she keeps doing it over and over sometimes but i'm not going to sling her across the room or dispose of her. i just simply get her down. anyway if you like the cat try to be friends with it. you said it wouldnt come near you. well try to feed it or something and get it to like you. then go to the neighbors and say i noticed your cat really likes me and i like it. it is over here alot is there any way you could part with it and let me have it please. then you make it your house cat. (that is if you want a cat) if you dont then scratch my idea.

I like cats, I like animals in general, My neighbors have a right to have cats. Cats in general and also dogs will roam and have a natural desire to hunt.
My neighbors right to own catsor other animals, and the animals right to roam and hunt ends when it hinders my right to have, keep and raise my animals in what should be a well constructed and safe environment. The Law / Police don't protect my rights, It investagates after my rights have been infringed upon. It is my obligation to legally protect those under my care unable to care for themselves.

If it were me and I had this problem, I would talk to the Police and ask them what would be a proper response to this situation. Then if it were to ecalate you would be on record as having tryed to do the right thing. The other alternative I like is the homemade box trap. I will warn you only of one thing. A box trap like that will only work one time on the same cat (unless the cat is retarded).
