OK!! Where is the DYI section?

Well, I'm biting off more than I can chew here.

I'd like to know how a person builds an incubater without spending a fortune???????????

Mrs. Spock & I just got 10 hens & 1 rooster. They are all between 1 & 2 years old. We were told that the hens would need a couple weeks before laying eggs again. OOPS!! These are all Production Reds. Well, I can honestly say it has not taken 2 weeks for them to lay eggs.

There are only the 2 of us. We don't need 8-10eggs per day. LOL!! Love 'Em, Gotta eat them, but, eventually will have to slow down on them. LOL!!

My dilemna: Mrs. Spock wants to try to hatch some of them. Can't afford an incubater!! She says that we can just put in in a towel with a light on it to hatch. After lurking for some time here, I need advise/HELP!!

I can't deny my wife anything but, I don't believe her method will work so, please tell us if I'm wrong!!

Does anybody have any ideas how we can attempt to hatch some eggs without a "Bater"?

I know! I'm cheap but we live on my Social security of under $800.00mo. I can't afford all the fancy toys, but, we are addicted & want to do this correctly. After all, they will be our pets/eggs/food.

I love our new hobbie. LOL!!

I dont remember how I did it........but about 10 years ago I did hatch some eggs in a cardboard box with a light bulb, a bowl of water and some towels...I have been trying to remember it all.....but age does something to your memory........BUT they all hatched!!!!!

if they farm sales and swap meets in your area you may get a bater there cheap

I dont remember where, but somewhere on here, someone posted how to make a bator from the styrofoam crates Wal Mart gets worms in. I tried it, but was not sucessfull..must have done something rong. Maybe someone knows where that post went??

I don't think the towel and lamp thing will work, unless you are in an extremely humid area, as the eggs need humidity to hatch. But maybe someone will come up with how to do it simply.
Or maybe someone on here who has upgraded would send you their old bator for the price of the postage? Hopefully. LOL Anyone got an old working bator laying around??

Well it did work.......but my granny had me sprinkle them daily.........and yes we live in a VERY humid area...but it was alot of dumb luck too.......

I haven't priced them this year, but last year I could buy the Little Giant styrofoam still air bator, with no turner, for about $35 at our local feed store. You could put it on the Mother's/Father's Day list and let someone else buy it for you or put it in layaway and pay just a little at a time until it's paid for.
