Okay, seriously, when is this site going to slow down!?!?!?!?!

I love that! It took me at least five years from the time I decided I wanted chickens until the time I got them. Now whenever I see a field I wonder why aren't there any chickens pecking around?

I also wonder why a rooster runs around the Issaquah Staples parking lot in the evenings. Did he fly the coop or get left behind?

I'm part of group two. Joined during my search to purchase chicks. Found some great information on the way to finding chicks.

I tell everyone that seems interested in chickens about BYC.

I was in Wal-Mart the other day and my 3 yr. old had to tell the cashier that he has lots of chickens. She said that she has some baby chicks, so I told her about BYC. She said that she was going to look it up the next morning.

I have a love/hate feeling for this place. I love it, because of all of the information and friendly members. I hate it, because I am up until at least midnight every night....lol I just cannot stay away. It calls me and I just have to find out what I am missing on here.

Yeah, although I love this site, I agree it gets really annoying when the same question gets asked every single day(Exasperation).

Is it because folks are too lazy to search? or because their search doesn't turn up enough info? If the latter, perhaps we can make the search function work better??

Nifty, maybe we can start a thread asking "why didn't you search for the answer first?"

I think it is because people are lazy, impatient, and/or don't know how to search. I know I fall into the first 2 camps quite often.

The search tool listed in the FAQ (if used correctly) can find a needle in a haystack (and tell you how long it is and how many people touched it last).

I agree, the simple questions that don't have a lot of room for creative thinking, like "how many sq. feet per bird." or "how many days does it take an egg to hatch" should be answered VERY quickly using the FAQs or search.

Oh, get this: I was talking to a friend in Nevada (doesn't have chickens... yet) was going to someone's house to get some free horse manure. He saw a few chickens and said, "Hey, do you know about backyardchickens.com." She said, "I sure do, I love that site!"

That was a pretty fun story and he loved telling it to me.

I'm in group #2; I can't remember how I found this site a few months ago, but I'm certainly glad I did! I've never raised chickens before (have 25 house birds, but no chix b4), and bought some chickens from an acquaintance, knowing nothing about them. Have learned some things through T&E (trial & error); but have learned SO much more from the kind folks on BYC. You folks have been a Godsend! I appreciate the courtesy members express toward each other, and the compassion and caring when someone is going through a family trial or a loss. BYC rocks! I like the card-carrying ID idea too, and would be in agreement with sending either a one-time or yearly membership fee (within reason) to help support the site and its programs. GO, BYC! THX MODS & ADMIN FOLKS!

Yeah, and as far as gaining lots of chicken knowledge from BYC forum, I've started scaring myself when someone asks me a chicken question, and I know wayyyy too much about it from reading up on info on this website.

That is SOOO true!

I work for an exciting internet startup in a corporate environment and deal with some important clients at fortune 500 companies. I need to be careful when I talk chicken because I sound like I spend all day on a farm.

You may be asking how it even comes up... well, I give and sell eggs to co-workers, and when I'm working from my home office and a hen lays an egg... well, people start asking questions!
