***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Actually, I'm thinking about doing this. Depends on if our local silkie enablers have hens they are willing to part with... I'd prefer b/b/s and would be willing to take a roo in a trio if it meant I could get the hens. Besides, silkie roos are awesomely cute, I prefer partridge roos because I love the color, and I still have an available setup for silkies from the last time I owned them.

I've already pm'd one of our silkie enablers, but she's not going to be down here until December. *twitch* Can I wait that long? I guess we shall seeeeeee. Maybe. chews nails

I don't have an incubator for 2 reasons. 1 is that I had 15 hatch out of... 3 tries, over 90 eggs. Those 15 were from p&b's easter egger flock. One batch went the way of a curious cat (i.e. the entire incubator hit the floor). One batch, the entire incubator full failed. I know it wasn't the 'bator because p&b successfully hatched before and after me using the same 'bator.

Then I got hoodwinked in the course of "buying" a bigger 'bator by a con man (yes, I can say that, he's been convicted AND he cons people out of money for things he'll never provide AND I have a judgment against him), and completely lost the desire to hatch. Now I'm waffling about it, but I dunno if I want to set myself up for failure again.

If I would have just bought the birds that I wanted instead of trying to hatch them, I'd've saved myself a ton of money.

Or you could get a silkie, isn't that the same as an incubator?

Haha! Did I mention I have 16 3 month old Silkies? They're gold, some have black streaks, some are bearded and you could have just females if that's what you wanted lmao!

Brooding stock! I remember a couple years ago about how to "encourage" silkie hens to go broody when you wanted them too... basically by setting up a nest w/eggs in a dog carrier and putting them in it at night when they're slow. After a day or two, they become broody and set the eggs (according to that thread). I've never had a chance to try it out, I normally shipped my MFC eggs back to the breeder I got the roo from.

Ksane, do you have pictures of your silkies? I don't want showgirl type... I prefer my chickens don't have naked necks.

Yea, let me run out and get pictures, give me 15 or 20 minutes. I think all you have to do to get a broody Silkie is like.....put them in your yard lol! One lady said her Silkie sat on a tennis ball all winter long

Does that make us co-enablers, or tag team enablers?
