I don't WANNA go to the south clinic and do their billing! I know it only takes a little bit, but they ALWAYS mess it up and the treatment manager lies to me

Then when I catch him he tries to cover it up

Some people suck. Chickens are much better. At least when they're mad, you can tell... and they don't hide things very well (except gender

Here's a bearded and un-bearded, both pullets. It's looking like out of the 11 Gold ones there's only 3 or 4 girls, the rest are boys. Mine are just hatchery Silkies & in all honesty you can find way prettier ones at swaps or auctions. I'm not so sure I could even part with any of these only because I've raised them from 2 day olds. I can't even part with the cockerals. The ugliest runtiest boy is named 'Sweet Babbo' and I love him out of pity the way only a mother can. I'm truly pathetic when it comes to getting attached. They don't act like Silkies are 'supposed to' either. The Blue Silkie girl I got at the swap is calm and cuddly and socialble. My Silkies? They act like toddlers on Mt Dew and Snickers bars

Heh. Ok. I'll wait until December then. I have a pre-teen, I don't need ANYTHING that acts like

We're tag-team. But Carl just jumped in and out-staged both of us.

Nah, she needs teh silkies too for those good looks and good broody hens are hard to beat when you want one. But I know what she is looking for in bantam Dottes will not be cheap even as eggs so would like her to know she has a very good reliable option for teh investment she would need to make to get them.

I didn't mean to take away from what you two had going but I do know my bators run when I need them to and broody's can be a bit fickle sometimes.

Yep. The 'dottes I want are going to come as eggs, and I'd like something to hatch them. Considering the fact that I don't really want to jack up such expensive eggs, I figure broody hens like silkies would be a better bet. However, if you're gonna volunteer to hatch, I might get silkie hens just to look at/love on and trust you with the eggs.

If your getting the dottes as eggs, I will happily hatch them for you. That way we know for certian they stay in a good safe spot till you get the little fuzzy buts home then they're yours to care for. I know there are no egg thieves near my incubators, they don't change thier mind half way through (ever), they don't have to eat or drink, and it only gets opened 2 x a week on wednesday to set and sunday to move to the hatcher and is sterilized every week. so they will be in a good location.

Aspen, do you raise your Seramas on sand or is that just from this desert-invoking summer

.... No, really, I have heard of people raising their birds on sand, but I've not tried it, and just wondered if you had?

Yes.
I raise my Seramas on sand, sort of. The top half of their hutch has a wooden room, that is where I have a plastic dog tray with sand on it. Then the other half the the top story is wire, that is were their food and water is. Then there is a ramp that goes down to a small run. We move it around every once in awhile, after they eat up all the grass. The sand really has no smell, and works great. When they lay their eggs in it I can just gentle brush off the sand and the egg is nice, clean, and shiney. However, when I used shavings, or hay the eggs were always soiled with poo and hay.
