Hi Okie's!

Look at all the fun I have missed out on today! I have spent my day finding cookie & other baking recipes. I will be baking tonight most of the night. I can already feel the pounds on my rear end. LOL.

Baking them doesn't add the lbs!

I'm sure I will have to try each of them! I plan to bring the extra's here to work so hopefully that will help!

hi guys- here is one of 'those' questions for you- i have 16 hens, 4 aren't laying yet, a couple are molting, only 4-5 eggs a day? also, my most faithful layer is spice the buff orp, feedstore type, should't i be getting a few more eggs than that?

Robin as the light goes away so does the eggs. Breeds that were not bred for laying like production reds and such will slow or stop laying as the days get shorter.

You can go to Walmart in the home secion get a timer (they plug in and cost about $7) run an extension cord from teh timer to a light (5000 kelvin or 6500 kelvin CFL) in the hen house. Set it so that the light comes on for an extra hour or two in teh morning before sunrise, this will give them the light hours they need to lay and they will get proper rest and sleep by going to roost with sun down like normal. It works like a charm for non-winter layers.

hmm, so between the heat of the summer and less light, they are on vacation....

You have 4 that are not laying yet, so you have 12 hens.. The ones in molt will not lay until the molt is over so that knocks you down some too... then the light hours affect them so yep you are getting short on layers...
