Yeah, I took a ccp refresher because I had taken the original course in 2009, my house was burglarized a month later and I lost both my handguns. Never pursued the license further because I figured what was the point with nothing to carry? Now with James possibly being deployed to Afghanistan (there's a 50/50 chance he'll be voluntold), it's simply smarter for me to get my own and he's going to purchase a handgun for me (we have his handguns, but they are too heavy and the grips are too big for me).

I really MUCH PREFER gun oil to chicken poop.

Personally for home protection I prefer a shotgun. I feel that the walls are better able to stop stray shot and it would be less likely to shoot a neighbor. I do wish however that they would pass the open carry law, my favorite pistol is hard to conceal.

from teh way it looks it will continue well into tomorrow, and start moving more to the east very slowly as it comes up from texas. You should see some later in the day and tonight. it is a very nice slow staedy rain here so just soaking into th eground rather than creating any run-off. its good for the ground and pasture land but will not do anything for a pond..

I woul dhave to agree with you there Les, you can still a target even if just woke up or a bit nervous, the noise will send anyone else out of there very quickly too. I have never been a big fan of a pistol or long range rifle but have found for everything I do incuding deer hunting a good 12 ga. works very well.

Good Mornin' Everyone, I think this is the most rain by far I've got right here all summer, Sure is nice. I'm still curious myself about the fire on the pole, I asked the guy that stopped me if lightning had struck it? He said no, he really didn't know how but it happens a lot, He said that there might have been a ground wire across the top, I have no idea myself LOL I hope everyone is getting enough rain and not too much, It's time to get busy again so many projects.. Soo little time... :)

Morning all. how was the sale last night? been busy around here, I got some jerky started dehydrating this morning, been marinating and curing the last day and half. I just hope I get some before the kids eat all of it.
So whats on teh agenda for the day? Sittin back enjoying the weather outside from inside? I know we need teh rain so won't complain but now I will actually have to mow the yard. I can't say I even remeber how now, we normally have to mow everyweekend but this year I don't think I have even mowed teh yard 5 times, even teh weeds didn't grow this year.

I'm thinking of getting some catfish pellets....high protein dogfood....catfood......something like that to supplement the chickens food with. The 3 month old Cochins and Silkies act like they're starving all the time even though their feeders are always kept full. I'm not impressed with any of the chicken feed I'm finding around here either. None of it has good old fashioned animal protein in it. The majority of a chickens diet is supposed to be bugs-which would be animal protein. The weather is going to start getting colder and I just don't feel confidant that the starter/grower feeds have enough of the right kind of protein in them. Something is lacking because they never seem full.
Any ideas? Maybe I'll buy a bag each of catfood, dog food and catfish pellets and mix them together. I'm assuming I buy the meat based dog/cat food, correct?

I do not know if there is a supplier near you however, S&S in shawnee carries US Suppliers 20% medicated and non-medicated starter / grower that is mostly animal protien for teh base, they also carry the 15% layer that has animal Protien as well. I have this to be an excellent feed. The Best chick grower I have found yet, and the layer is very good.
If you are looking for good egg production you can use dog or cat food with Soy. Cat food is actually a bit better as it is often fish meal based with a great deal of fish oil that will put a serious shine on a bird.. The soy will actually help with egg production as will alfalfa pellets or cubes as they raise the estrogen levels.
