Then I supplement with a little scratch and the soaked oats each day. They also get what ever leftovers are in the fridge this time of year...including the meats chopped fine. I run hard boiled eggs thru the food processer to chop up the shells and give a little twice a week to all pens.
Talking with DGibson the other day. He is getting some birds conditioned for Newcastle . He said he mixes a little cat food, a little dog food and processes it then mixes with his feed....Don, you will have to give a proportion for her.

they have the best chick starter and grower that we have ever used. the birds so good on it.
20% protien medicated or non-medicated same feed with and without meds.
ground Corn, dehulled soybean meal, porcine meat, bone meal, fish meal, wheat mids, dried distillers grains, alfalfa meal. thats the top ingredients in that order.

Last I bought was Broiler/Starter 20% med @ 13.45 for 50# on Sept 2 Also bought50# scratch @11.80 and 50# recelaned whole oats @ 11.95.
On Aug 4 purchased 10 bags of layer pellets @ 10.50 for a 50# bag (They give a 10% discount on 10 bags or more) Will be going to town for more on Tuesday, after the rain stops) and will post if the price has gone up.

Guys I want to caution you all on feeding chickens chicken. Mad cow disease and scrapes (also known as bovine spongiform encelphalopathy or BSE) developed from the practice of cannibalism and herbivores eating meat. Genetically most warm blooded animals are designed not to eat their own kind. It is just not safe in the long run.
Also mad cow and scrapie s is not a virus it is a protein that mutates mainly due to cannibalism, especially when consuming the organs and brain. The mutated proteins (also called prions) can cross the blood brain barrier to infect other species. It is hard to destroy and is 100% fatal. Put it this way; there is a cow in the field that dies from BSE, the body is left and is broke down into the soil, the grass grows over the area and another cow eats the grass, BSE is then passed to this cow. Basically this disease turns the brain into a sponge and not in a soak up knowledge, kinda way.
Chickens are omnivores in that they eat insects, grains, nuts but a chicken's natural diet is not to eat other birds, like hawks and owls do. My birds all eat a blend of crumbles and whole grains that is totally animal protein free, but has a combined protein level of 22%. When they need a boost I give them yogurt or beef, lamb or fish, but never chicken or turkey. So far there is no reported case of poultry getting BSE but that does not mean that it can not happen if the practice of cannibalism continues.
NOVA did a very good show explaining BSE years ago, which can be found on line if you want more information about the disease.

Kass thats a pretty good haul for late summer! You must be doing something right. What do you do with the white scallop? I always cut thick steaks and breaded and panfried. Good stuff but wife won't eat them because they soak up so much grease/oil.Did you see thos pumpkins that looked like scallops on steriods!lol

Quiet day here. washed the car,ent to a movie. Going to do a littl sewing in a few on a new quilt.

We noticedon theway to the movie thatits starting to look like fall here. Quiet a bit of color already showig. I have been picking up chinese chestnuts from my tree. They look like huge chinquapins(some of you older ones may remember) ,wish they tasted as good! Haven't been able to figure out how to use these yet.

Something that will stay in their stomachs long enough so they don't have to eat non-stop? Not sure what the answer is.
