***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Joe - At what time can people start checking birds in at the auction in Stilwell? Is the auction in the same building where the Green Country Swap was?

Patty, the guineas are settling in well. I put your three in an inner pen, with the two males from Greybear in an adjoining, outer pen. I intend to entice the two that have been loose since the raccoon attack into the other outer pen, which adjoins the pen with Greybear's, and is in front of the pen with my eight three-month olds. I guess these four pens form a quadruplex!

One of yours has been insisting on getting into the pen with the two males from Greybear, and made its way in today. The other two wanted in also, so I let them in this evening. The were all getting along well together. This was a big surprise, as they are adults and haven't been in sight of each other very long. They have the run of both pens right now, with high perches, which mine usually love. They also have plenty of places to get away from each other if need be. I'm hoping for a good result when I get my other two, a pair of royal purples, in with them, and later the youngsters. So far, however, the two loose ones don't seem interested in returning to that pen where the raccoons attacked. I think they are pretty safe in there now. If you ever want keets again, I should have some next season. Thanks again for making these beautiful birds available! I still haven't figured out which is the male. One of the hens laid a tiny (probably end of season) egg in the carrier on the way home.

Finally caught up on all the posts and pics...getting sleepy...DH is passed smooth out on the sofa. Went to the orthopedic surgeon today and he took the cast off of my DH's hand and gave him a hand brace to wear for four weeks and some work restrictions but then his hand will be completely healed!

Thank God his bone is healing straight even without having the surgery the doctor wanted to do!

Okay did some research on the whole pheasant / chicken cross thing. It was interesting seems the male has to be pheasant the female a chicken. The offspring are not vigorous, and the female offspring are thought to be infertile, but the males are thought to be fertile.

The pics I saw really uglied up the male (offspring much less colorfull and pretty) and nothing very special looks wise for the female offspring. Can't figure why a person would do it, except they can? But I didn't see many pics, maybe if the cross were w/ a fancier female, but still can't wrap my mind around why.
