***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We would use the poultry auction as our personal time when all the kids were here, now that we are down to 2-3 in the house it is much more peacefull, and seldom have the need to leave to be "alone" we can just go sit outside or something.

We use a brooder building, set up with a series of 7 temperature pre-set metal brooders, then 6 cages for teh birds inside teh building, they go outside at 13 weeks of age. For the young birds once outside they are on thier own to cope with temps. the Breeder pens have lights but I use 5000 kelvin CFLs this is for winter breeding. I do not add heat or cool for teh birds so as to keep a hardier bird for breeding stock.

if you had Modern Game or something with an extremely long leg and very little feather then heat would be good idea. but only so much as to keep them above 35 degrees.

I have Red Jungle Fowl.

So long as they are adults you should have no issues what so ever.. Our Oe bantams do great and they are tigher feathered than teh jungle fowl, and smaller.

When you get the building up let me know.. I will share some conditioning pen plans and such to keep them in good shape once cleaned up, they also work great for special matings.

That would be great! I will be checking on the thin metal insulation tomorrow so I can start hangin metal.

I use a deep mulch in my coops. I cover the sides of all my pens the colder it gets on my individule pens I also have to cover half of the bottom (this is my OEGB's). I use cookie tin heaters under the 1 gal. water to keep them from freezing.

They ARE real. At the Wild Animal Park in San Diego, the wild boar and the meer cat? I think that's what he is.... Anyway. At the park the cages for these two animals are right next to each other. Disney artists and writers spent a lot of time at the WAP doing sketches, taking photos and videos, and researching. If you ride the tram around the park, you'll see the hill that is in the opening scene of the movie. We were lucky enough to witness a herd of antelope rushing over the hill. It was identical to the scene in the film, only better: because it was real.

now you are making me homesick....

So..... If anyone would like what I believe to be an EasterEgger Rooster, please let me know.

I will try to post a picture of him this evening.

Thanks

I have never used a heat lamp on any grown birds. This year will be different because we have bantam Moderns that will have to be kept from getting too cold.

I don't like going home at lunch because I do have a hard time coming back.
