Dont worry about the cost, we will give you enough to get what you need done until yours comes in. We are always home, just call first and we will make sure one of us stays home...LOL

Kwartel, thank you! I just ordered a gallon. It's not going to be here til Monday at the earliest though.
Stephanie/Carl, can I send my husband out about 5:30? I'm going to get up early to get started on the turkey pen to get birds even more confined. That way I can have the young ones all locked up so they can't even look out and see any older birds

I want to soak down the run where the baby Cochins are now and their coop. It's just at 250 sq ft altogether. How much do you think I'd need after mixing? 6 gallons? NanaKat said she uses 1/2 oz per gallon, is that how much you use? Whatever I borrow I can give right back to you after I get my bottle next week. I'll mail it to you priority mail. I would sure feel 100 times better if I could get that stuff sprayed everywhere where the Cochins are. Will it work on the dirt if I get it wet enough? Because the vet said bleach wouldn't.

We will be here so you can send your husband. You dont want to soak the ground but make sure you cover it good. Do it every couple of days. Put it in their drinking water only once every 2 weeks at most because it will kill all bacteria(good and bad). It doesnt work the same as bleach. Oxine will kill things that bleach cant even touch. If your pens are movable the very best thing you can do is get them on fresh ground and let the sun bake the original area they were on, if not, oxine is the next best thing. If you have any young babies that are enclosed you can fog with it. I will try to find my list of how much you mix it with water per application you are using it for.

It sound slike you need a heated room... I am done washing birds until the end of Nov. in prep for Shawnee, thought about going to Prior to decided against it, just don't have enough birds in good feather and condition. I think the next two months will help me catch up.
If you were closer I would gladdly come help you out though. what colors are you trying to clean up? When is teh show? if its this weekend Don't wash them just dip in water and rinse well otherwise teh feathers will not come back together in time.

Yeah see I didn't wash because it was cold & I was lazy. I went out & everyone got the once over, beak trim & toe nail trim & decided that I only needed to do feet! Cochin girl will come in tonight to get her butt sprayed but that's all.

I need my building done. I should be getting the insulation this weekend so I can get started. What do they call the thin insulation silver on one side, white on the other, they put it between the stud walls & the metal on the outside?

I got one price on it but have decided that I can do better! LOL.

Why don't yu check on spray in, stabilized cellulose? With the Borate that is used as a fire retardant the bugs and mice both will stay away from it.

This info on Oxine is very timely for me. I bought a gallon a year or so ago, but didn't have anything to apply it with as a mist. Just yesterday got a Fog Master Jr. I bought from a silkie friend who advertised it online. Now I have to figure the ratios out and get my lazy self out there to do it. The amounts I wrote on the jug are 1 tsp/5 gallons and 15 drops/gallon. If I remember correctly, this was if you were misting with chickens in the pen. I'll do some more checking before I actually use it, and am reading the advice here.

Mornin' Okies.

Everybody was really happy with their hot mash this morning. I got mobbed by the cochin girls, they know which side their mash comes on! I'm beginning to think that 2 of my 3 EEs are bantams, they are perfectly formed but half the size of the 3rd EE. The BSLs were being their usual bossy selves. All in all, a great chicken morning

Betsy,
I use a pump up spray bottle for pens and equipment I use 1/2 TSp per gallon. For a sick bird 1/4 TSP per gallon in water. For algea and bacterial control in water i Use 1/16 TSP per gallon. For misting teh birds I use 1/4 Tsp per gallon.
I tried a propane type fogger and it was too cumbersome, the spray bottle works well for me.

You can fog with it in a building to sterilize everything but you would have to remove every bird if you activate the oxine with citric acid crystals.

If you are having respiratory issues in a building you could always add some to a humidifier and let it run.. We have done that in the house when someone here gets sick

We're having real fun here this morning... trying to get a new puppy used to the girls and vice versa. Anybody got any tips on how to do this right? Right now, the girls run for the coop on sight! Of course, their run-in with a German Shepherd last week probably didn't help any. I hope over time they will get used to each other.

What I am talking about is just the thin stuff you put between the metal & the inside as a mositure barrier......I don't know what it is called. I will use roll in insulation for the other just because of price.
