***OKIES in the BYC III ***

KSane you must have me mistaken with someone else! I am no wait!lol but thanks ffor the kind words. I was just raised in the backwoods Okie ways that you treat others like you want to be treated and you care for and protect your elders and family.

Ucdayz ,thanks, yes it is achallenge to care for dementia patients, but when you have selfish and not to smart family trying to control things it really gets frustrating. The bad thing is ,since she had to be discharged because of her Medicare time allotted for rehab, they had an opening come up and they could have just reassigned her to a new room and she could have stayed where she was! And like you said she would have had 24 hour care,24/7. And all her needs met plus the wife there daily in a position to be sure she got the best of care.anyway sorry for Antony of our poultry page but you all are family anymore! Lol and thanks again for the kind words and prayers everyone.

My smallest Serama, who has been sitting on 9 eggs for almost two weeks now is doing a good job of caring for her eggs. I candled them again this evening and all but one is developing well. One looks to me like it's infertile. There's one egg, though, that looks like it's way behind in development than the others. I wonder if one of the other Serama's slipped an egg into the nest ...

In the sectioned off part of the garage where most of the other Seramas are, I put a large plastic flower pot on it's side for the hens to lay their eggs. They use it as a nesting box but have managed to scoot most of the hay out of it. Three of the hens have decided to go broody at the same time and are all crammed in there now trying to sit on a few eggs.

I'll try to get a photo of them tomorrow. It's hilarious! I put a second large flower pot out there, put hay in it and a few eggs, and put one of the broodies in it but after a few minutes she went back to the other flower pot with her buddies. Silly girls. They are some determined little things.

I set one of my serums this week. She is pro ably a bor close to c class and her and her roo and another hen have been acclimated to be outdoors and that's where she is setting! So far they are doing great. My silkied hen is laying also so I put a box in with her hoping she will set. They are under heat lights in the shed. But the roo is getting so aggressive she has to try and hide all the time. Wonder if I should separate them for a while.her eggs should be good and fertile for a few days spearatio. At a time I would think. I tried knot to like the serums for a long while but they have sure started growing on me! Thanks JuneBug you Enabler you!lol

Now it's just a price waiting game. The auction ends in 3 days so I'll know for sure by then if I got them or not.

I can too no problem. Incubator is up and running right now.

Thanks Allbreeds, I'll keep you guys posted on whether I get them or not.

Morning guys! New Years eve used to be quite a deal in my moms house, we'd do puzzles, snacks and that kind of thing- now we just say....big whoop!

mine are getting very spoiled! easy to do with these little things

We got a whopping 5 eggs yesterday: one from the Cornish pen, two from DGD's control pen, and two from her test pen. Here's the freaky part: they were all exactly two ounces. I don't know if they had the same exterior dimensions, but the weights were exactly the same. We'll be measuring egg weight and size for the remainder of her experiment, so I'm hoping to see an increase for the birds in the test pen.

I've already had a good start for the New Year - Just had to pull a lamb for one of Jack's Hair Sheep ewes. The lamb's legs were folded under and crossed. It is a big, little boy. After it came out it took a little while, because the ewe was tired, but then she delivered a smaller lamb that we think is a ewe. This Mama had tripplet last year and raised all three. Looks like this year only two but they are healthy!

I have done some fun (different) things on New Year's Eve. On the Millinium I euthanized a Possum with a pitchfork in a blizzard.
I made Joe promise he would be home for that particular holiday but the Navy had other plans. He was in Jaba Ali, on the Carrier, doing his laundry. I went home to Michigan and was feeding the cattle for my Dad because it was very cold and snowy. My tears froze on my face on the way to the barn. There was a possum sleeping in the grain bin. Every day the dog would catch it and think he killed it. In New Year's Eve he hurt it and it was breeding badly. I didn't think my Dad wanted to get out in the snow with his shot gun and I didn't know how to shoot then, so I took care of it.
