***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Okay.. I have more info.
Feb 8th Yonna will be on tv ksbi 52 with Larry and Mary the silkies that are from fellow
BYC'ers. Also we are putting on a poultry clinic with three different county's soon. I hope
this will help us get the Oklahoma Poultry Federation back up and hosting a show that would
be local right here in OKC. I have the cages and the judges along with some money to back
this up. However for now a clinic to share some skills and have excess to some birds and info.
Anyone have the contact info for the feather less bird?
have a nice day...

Think that sounds like a great way to teach others about poultry. If by featherless chicken you are referring to the naked roo, I beleive he is in chicken heaven now.

I would be intrested in a clinic. I am new to this chicken thing and I am always reading books and magazines for info, it would be nice to meet some local people that have chickens also.

Sikes you should come to a few of the auctions! Blanchard auction is this wk. Lots of BYC there. The auction is great even if you are not in the bird market. They have lots of other stuff besides birds.

I will share info with you when I get it..
The clinic will have three-four different county educators and
I am in contact with the judge we had here in my county that
ran the old Poultry Fed...
If anyone wants to share info please IM me and I will pass it on.

Wow this is awesome. Hope it comes together. If I can help let me know.

This makes me feel old. Actually, it just demonstrates my love for classic films. Sad but true, I love bad films too. I enjoy "watching" a story develop. DH says it's hard to watch movies with me. I don't jump up and scream, "The butler did it!" but I do wear that face, as DH calls it, when I've figured out what is going to happen next. He's an observer when it comes to movies, but the writer in me is always trying to figure out what the next line will be before it's spoken. Loved The Egg and I, by the way. It's an interesting film.

I loved the movie also. I remember seeing it the first time when I was pretty young. (it was a rerun, I aint near old enough to have seen it when it come out) I was fascinated with the idea that a person could make a living in poultry.

Oh, Beth, you just made my day! You know how worried I was about Chicken Larry and now he made it to the big time

Please please let us know what time it airs, I've surely got to watch that. That's awesome! You must be so proud of your daughter.
In reference to the featherless bird-do you mean BanjoJoe's naked chicken? I know he died if that's the one you're talking about.

The clinic sounds interesting.

Sure is cold here today.
Spent part of the morning cleaning out the filter trap on my disdwasher. Had it 12 years and have had no problems. Noticed there some junk on it and unscrewed the hex screws, lifted off the filter and found it was loaded with calcified stuff. Simple job..but much needed.

The broodie girls are in wire bottomed cages suspended from the wall and ceiling of the hen house to keep their fluffy bottoms cooler..hoping to break them from being broodie. Ended up putting two in each cage with food and water cups. Three of them you could take off the nest and set on the floor and they would just sit there in a trance and growl....Seriously broodie! And it is catching! There are 7 now.

Has anyone fed beef liver to your chickens for the riboflavin? Do you feed it raw or cooked. Since Quiver has curled toes I'm boosting his riboflavin. I have yogurt and spinach, but research said liver is also a great source.

This is what my Cochin bantam does! I was really worried about her, she's like in a daze-what's wrong with her? That's being broody? Yikes! She just puddles up in a pile with glassy eyes, scares me! I pick her up and carry her around and she'll come out of it and all of a sudden dart for the food and eat like crazy. But the next time I look in on her she's back on the nest in that dazed state. Not sure I like this lol The other Cochin bantams hop up and run off as soon as I take them off the nest and are fine (til their next egg. sigh). But this black one really had me concerned. I think I'm going to take the Modern Bantam eggs away from her and put her somewhere else. This can't be good for them to sit like that.
I got a bottle of Poultry Drench for like $6 at Atwoods that's packed with vitamins, etc. Never fed liver but I'm betting they'd love it either way.

Larry is super sweet and has already helped raise $125.00 for the Ronald McDonald house
at the gun show....
I think air time is about 12:45 om the 8th but will post more later...

I feed my chickens meat once and awhile. I think it does them much good and they love it. I have never fed liver to them though. As much as I cant stand liver, I would hate for it to contaminate the eggs.
