***OKIES in the BYC III ***

BBB on the d'Anvers site said that the little Blue d'Anvers is a Blue Quail d'Anvers
I did a search and found some great pictures of Blue Quail d'Anvers...
I just love those tiny birds with their beards. I'm getting frustrated with "the tinys" and am a little scared to try them. My OEGBs are split into 3 different places now they're so ornery. You know.....maybe I'm going about it wrong in trying to integrate already mature adults. Maybe I need to get a batch of eggs and pay Carl to hatch them.....and then just keep *those together split into male/female. Nana, I really love how those little birds look. Just concerned they're as ornery as OEGB.

Does anyone know how long it takes for black swan eggs to hatch?

I think there are 2 eggs, but they won't let me get close enough to be sure.

Hi everyone.

Nana - Your little babies are adorable, and there are so many!

I thought I had my hands full with six new ones, but you have a lot more space to keep them than I do. Are you planning to keep / breed / butcher them? Your daffodils are beautiful, too. They are coming up all over the place around town. My tulips haven't come up yet but expect them to pop up anytime now.

Robin - I don't have a caption to go with your photo but it is a cute pic. That white silkied Serama hen is so pretty and shiny! One of the chicks that my silkied hatched is white. I hope he/she is as pretty as your hen. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I haven't figured out how to easily turn the eggs in the really big incubator, so mainly used the Sportsman and the Hovabator foam incubators last year. I think that this year I will have Carl hatch the "special" eggs like the pheasant and peacock eggs. I didn't have very good luck with them at all and this year I have more varieties of peacocks that should be old enough to lay.

Let us know how the puppy pads work in the brooder. If they work, I might try the bed pads that were left over from a disabled uncle's care.
I couldn't imagine trying to turn all those eggs without an automatic turner, maybe you could turn it into a hatcher, but you would have to put in a viewing window. I don't think it would be possible to hatch eggs without looking at them. I will update everyone on how the puppy pads work in the brooder. I am thinking I will hold them down with double stick tape, since the plastic backing might cause slippage.

NaNa great ideal for a name. ,I think they will be American Conffettis , what do you think cowboy? You might want to get in on the ground floor of this breed! Lol, We need to get two strains going so we can cross them for the final bloodline!

NaNa the little d angers is cute ,they are neat birds, the hens are so sweet, the males can be a bit aggressive, they like to sneak up behind you!lol luckily they are small but they can scare you if you don't expect it. They are also great little setters and mothers. I think the goal would be to really keep the size down when breeding, the smaller the better in their case.

Wonder where cjarvis is this morning? Must be working as I can't imagine him ever being lazy!

I am baby sitting the daughters house, they have people putting down new floors and they all had to be gone so I got elected to hang around! So brought my iPad and my sewing and trying to keep from being bored. And wouldn't you know it,it's a gorgeous day out!

What are you sewing these days Wayne?

Do you have trouble with the Ipad & this message board? I couldn't post at all with my kindle.

The cross breeds are to improve laying in the Cochin and improve the mothering in the Australorp. Crossing the CW and the Cochin with the breeds should do that. My laying flock is already two years old. This should also increase the size of the meat birds. (Australorp, Delaware, Black Sexlink, RIR New Hampshire I added CW and SLW and Minorcas this last year.

I love the Columbian Wyandottes and have a Blue Wyandotte...trying for a nice Blue Columbian (right Carl?)

Then I've gotten fond of the Cochins and since I have a Blue hen and the Blue rooster...hoping to expand there in pure bred. That's why I bought the Cochin eggs from Iowa...need more hens to get more lovely babies. This should help get enough to sell some.
