***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Do these ark style coops provide enough protection and insulation in the winter? I would like to scrap our coop and make an ark style, but don't want to freeze our chickens out in the winter.

With the exception of last winter when it got so bitterly cold we have never had problems with the birds not being able to take the cold. And if that happens again just throw tarps or old blankets over the arks and secure them along the edges. When we had a big stacked pen set-up for bantams we covered them with sun faded velour drapes. At near zero the waterers didn't even freeze through the day and there was never any frostbite on the combs either. On the back side of the pens I misted the drapes with water and it froze creating an ice barrier that cut the wind.

hmmm...nothing really regal... But plenty of caregivers.... There was Dr. Wellby...Then there is McDreamy from "Grey's Anatomy"

Doc Holliday. Little good, little bad

Thanks Nana and Cathie- i just can't figure out what may have caused it, she was kept in a pen next to the banties, so she had company without risking her back- no mites, lice etc, no discharge...guess its one of those unknown- cathie, sorry about your guinea, i adore mine-

Awe Robin sorry for your loss, we lost a Guinea today as well. I knew it was coming as a stray dog got ahold of him and he was banged up pretty good. I had hoped he would pull through. It is hard when we loose a feather baby.

Cathie

I'm sorry for your loss Robin, maybe it was related to whatever reason she was special needs?

Nanakat, that would be Mcoy (bones) then. The is always the best Doctor out there Doctor Who!

Robin on rare occasions there can be problems with breeds that have the vaulted skull. Sometimes it doesn't form right which causes neurological problems such as seizures and it can even be fatal.

I know that the Silkie had the best of care in your hands. I'm sorry for your loss.

Actually the best Dr. out there is Doctor Demento!!!
