***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I am looking for someone(s) to help me build a chicken coop(s)...as raccoon/skunk/coyote proof as possible...within my budget.
I am also looking for free materials on my local FreeCycle.org group but so far no replies.

I live about 8 miles West of Purcell near the Woody Chapel store.

i have a coworker that lives in that area who has chickens. if there is any building going on around you ask if you can have some of their throw away lumber.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

I lost two hens in 1 week (A neighbor was walking her dog off leash, the dog jumped our fence, our hens were free ranging in the back yard, and her dog got them.). I ended up having to put them out of their misery. I was a mess for a week (I still am, just please don't tell my husband).

I am glad your hen got lots of love and care. It really does matter to them.

Thanks Nana and Cathie- i just can't figure out what may have caused it, she was kept in a pen next to the banties, so she had company without risking her back- no mites, lice etc, no discharge...guess its one of those unknown- cathie, sorry about your guinea, i adore mine-

I rescued 3 surviving signets several winters ago from a woman who does bird rescues in OKC. I lost contact with her when my computer crashed. I know she would be proud to see how they did. One died and I thought the other 2 were males, but I'm happy to say they're not. Was I surprised when I saw them building a nest.

It
was taken last summer.

Contrary to popular belief, they get along well with my other birds. However, they are very protective.
Anything, animal or human, that gets to close to their nest is told to leave the area.

NNbreeder, I really like that pen the birds are in. I over-think things waaaaay too much and have wracking my brain trying to come up with an easy to make permanent pen for these ornery OEGBs. That pen is just what I'm going to make.

They are by no means predator proof. What you don't see is the piece of 1" plywood that normally sits across the top and the 300 or so pounds of pooches that roam at night. I will post the best that I have later.

This is a high security cage that we got from Govliquidation. I welded some trailer roof bows on it and then put tin on it. If a critter comes calling they had better bring a torch!!

We also bought some shelving units that had expanded metal on three sides just lay the open side down and put a door one one end and you have about a ten minute cage.

This is what I mean by thinking outside the box.
