***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Those black swans are gorgeous! I hope that you get some babies from them!

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for the laughing rooster, it really did put a smile on my face. :) I hope you all have a great day, and hopefully Sooner behaves himself. And since I am new here, I don't have to worry about him posting a picture of me today.

I do have a question. I had a flock of 6, but we recently lost two hens to a neighbors dog getting in our yard, and I am wanting to replace them. These are my flock. I lost the GLW and the Astralorp in the background of the photo.

My current small flock is

2 Astralorps,
1 Buff O
1 Golden Lace Wyandotte...

We used to let my hens free range in the back yard. Now that I am starting a garden I need to keep them cooped up so they don't dig up my garden. They used to be so happy and go lucky, but now they are cooped up with less freedom.

It seems that my Astolorps are more noisy and do not like being confined in the coop. If fact they I can hear them voicing their protest right now.
and it seems that the Buff O and my GLW are more docile, and not as bothered by being in the coop all day.

I only have the experience of the temperment of my small flock to go by. Are Dottes and Buff Os normally more docile and quieter? Do they tend to be more accepting of being confined most of the day?

I am getting big eggs from both my Buff O and GLW so I know they are good egg producers, and I would like to get one more of each. I love my Astralorps. But it is important to get birds that are not as noisy because we live in the city and I don't want to bother the neighbors. (We are rebuilding and expanding our coop before we get two new hens).

Thanks!

Have a blessed day!

I'm not going to have anything on temperment because I have had the same breed of chickens act completely different.

How did the dog get in the back yard? Ever thought about a hot wire?

I am not behaving today!!!!!

We lost 3 cuckoo marans and a black star to dogs earlier this month. I went overboard when we replaced them so hubby has been busy finishing the new coops, lol. I only had cuckoo marans and black stars before but we added, 6 buff orphingons, 6 black australorps, a pair of blue splash marans, a trio of golden salmon marans, and 2 mut banty roosters. From what I researched buff orphingtons and australorps seem to be more docile but at the same time they tend to go broody but I don't know about that since ours are only 5 months old.

A lady was walking her dog w/o a leash and it jumped our fence.

As to the temperment... I am just a little worried that I will get another of my docile breed and have them be complete opposites! :)

Ok... if you are not going to behave, share the fun!!

DD had her last basketball game of the season last night. We went out to dinner afterwards & once we were home she was asleep within 10minutes. Basketball season is exhausting! Yesterday I started 2 more flats of tomatoes & some how dropped an entire flat of peppers that I started last wk behind my deep freeze. DH wasn't happy, he was ready to empty the deep freeze & pull it out. I reassured him that the dirt could stay behind the deep freeze for the next yr until we are ready to move the deep freeze.

Anyone ever grown artichokes from seed? I started puple & green. The purple ones look much nicer already. I have heard the purple do better in our climate, guess I will know in a few months.

While we were in Chickasha at dinner I made a quick trip into atwoods & they have these CUTE green chick feeder/ waterers that hold a gal a think. Bought one to try it out. If I like it, I see several more in my future. I will for sure report back on the water, the other gal ones they sell for chicks I don't like, so I was excited to find this one.

I am anxious for the wind to die down. Yesterday my Oak Valley Wheel Hoe & other attachments arrived. I really want to go outside & play with it. But I am willing to wait for the wind to slow, since I don't want to be eating the dirt! I tested it out last night, and I LOVE it already. Much easier for me to use than a stir-up hoe, it is easier on my body & quicker!

Sooner posting pics from poops gets me more & more ready for April. Can't wait for the date to be set. Maybe Frontier City will already be open & we can just get a room in the city & make it a whole weekend. Kids would love it, well at least one of my kids, I never know about my teenager........

You will most likely have a hard time adding new chickens to the exsiting flock. I personally would make sure to add all three at one time, it would also be nice if those three were already a group so they could hang together while the pecking order is adjusted.
