***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Evening Okies,

Spent half the afternoon on the phone talking to pecan growers. Most are already sold out for this planting season. Last year's drought ruined so many trees that they simply don't want to talk about it. Prices for young trees are high.

We were supposed to be planting ten seedlings each year to meet out goals for retirement. Both DH and I have been so busy that planting pecans was not possible for either of us. I figure I've got a month and a half to plant, and I'm two years behind, so I've arranged to get twelve three-year-old trees with native root stock that are already grafted with either Pawnee or Kanza. I've got a grower looking for some smaller container trees for me, which will be a little easier on the pocket book. If he can get them before the end of February, then we'll be on schedule again with a total of twenty trees in the ground.

Does anyone have native pecan trees? I'm trying to get five to ten pounds of raw, whole, in-the-shell native pecans so that I can start them in containers. I can pay for the nuts and shipping. They travel better than hatching eggs

I know I can't let my husband see this thread, especially this pic. If he did there would be no way he would let me meet you all at a swap or show or meetup.

But it sure is funny,.....

Hey everyone, I just want to update everyone on the planned 2012 People of Oklahoma Poultry Swap (POOPS).
I have a tentative date set for May 5 2012 at the Choctaw City Park Pavilion. I say tentative because although I have been ASSURED that we have secured May 5 as the date, FINAL approval will come from the city council next week.
As usual, having livestock there is the issue.
We will be letting everyone know more details after we get the final OK.
The park is about five miles north of the KOA where we have had three POOPS events in the past.
It is less than a half mile south of NE 23rd street which is old highway 62 which runs through the middle of Choctaw.
Thanks,
Monty

May 5 will be perfect. Adam graduates the weekend before that with his Master's Degree so our company coming in for the event will have gone by then.

Sure hope the City Council says "Yes"

Will you send out a notice saying you will be there? I would like to see your birds. I love the Admiral Mkt!!
we setup at the admiral fleamkt everynow and then, usually sell out within 3-4 hours. 2 weeks ago it took an hour to sell all 60 birds.
it costs 10 bucks there, but you arent limited to a small space, they are kinda lenient on that.
you are almost guaranteed 2-300 shoppers an hour on a good day, saturday or sunday either one.
this is on the north side, we dont even think about the southside. way to much asphalt for the summertime.

Those are pretty chickens, Joe. They remind me so much of bare legged Cochins.
I fixed 2 rubbermaid tubs today for my bug collection. I get the Hissing Cockroaches tomorrow. The egg slats got hung up in Dallas so they'll get here tomorrow also. I was hoping to get them *before the bugs got here. I only bought 20 of these guys, I want to see how hard their shells get before I ordered too many of them. I know I want Dubia for feeders, they'll be the main ones. I'm going to order 800 of them in a week or so, I can't wait. It'll be months before I can start feeding them but the chickens are going to love them! So are my big fish. Kass, I'm so excited!!
