***OKIES in the BYC III ***

No rain here yet....heard there was a 5 inch rain in the western part of the state. That would be some great pond water! Sure hope we get some.

I've already been out feeding and watering the birds...so enjoy the little fuzzbutts. Those babies sure can eat the food. I'm filling three food trays every morning and two water containers twice a day. They are so cute! Only one pasty bottom this morning. At a week of age, they are getting some wing tip feathers and I enjoy tryng to figure out what the crosses will look like as they grow. I try to handle every one at least one a day to begin the calming process. Some already jump on my hand when I put it in the tank.

Hubby has a horrible cold...coughing, sneezing...chest hurts...no sleep. He is going to do his feeding chores this morning, but will stay inside resting. Got him lots of sinus/cold remedy stuff yesterday. I'm going to pamper him and work on the taxes.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Good Morning to all in Okie Land. We did go to Maud last night. Not a ton of birds but we did come home with some chicks that are about 4-6 weeks old. I really was kicking myself when buff orphington female chicks were going for 30 cents each but I just didn't have anywhere set up for chicks that little yet. We will go back in a few weeks when I can be more prepared for chicks. I was sad to see the guineas go for 8.50 each. Is that typical? We paid $4 for ours last year and I was hopeing to score at least a dozen more with hopes of a female or two.

We will be going to the North Harrah auction tonight (or at least that is the plan) and Newcastle tomorrow. Then tomorrow afternoon dh is meeting up with some nice folks from Tulsa to get a young buff orphington roo, 2 black australorp roos, and a RIR roo. Plus a pair of EEs. That will about finish out my flock for spring besides 3 or 4 barred rock hens.

DH will be building the isolation pens today for all the newbies coming in tomorrow. I have the chicks in the feed house with a heat lamp. Not sure they still need it at their age but I put it in there just in case.

Hope everyone has a great Friday. Today starts my weekend so off to work on coop building with dh. We should have 3 more pens done today and 4 more partially finished until we get more supplies.

I think they are both wonderful! Anything that someone lovingly puts together by hand is the best. You just can't buy love!

The rain hasn't made it here yet but it is cool this morning! I hope the day goes by fast!

WOW beautiful quilts!!! I sew but I can't quilt. We got a few brief showers here around 7 but nothing lasting more than a few mins. Gonna go out and tend to my babies and see if I can't talk my blue splash hen into laying lol.

3 hours one way!

Good morning okie land, I was productive last night & missed out on all the posting. So happy today is Friday! Other than a show Sat I am going to have a great weekend.

Show is in Eufaulla this time & I won't know what she is taking until I get home today. I'm sure it will be basically what she always takes. Entries go in when we get there.

Adult guineas @ most auctions bring $7-$12. Last fall someone brought a few hundred & I got some that were at least 12 wks old for $2.25 each. However in July my daughter sold 20 something keets at the auction that brought $6.75 each. She was thrilled! But normally keets bring $3.50-$4.50 @ auction.

I have been working with these brown reds for 8 years, and I have never had a chick this color from the brown red pen. Guess I better not mate this again, just put them down on the ground and let them run.

What do your other brown red's look like at hatch? In 8 years to have hatched only 1 like that may just be a recessive trait associated to two birds in the flock. Do you know which Rooster and Hen were involved in the mating? You will see that happen sometimes when teh birds are carrying a recessive trait and mate father to daughter or mother to son but to get the light leg, and duckwing pattern in the chick down there must be some duckwing in there somewhere, I did notice you have Blue Red are you sure you did not miss label an egg? I have done that before and was real surprised when I looked in the hatcher. If it is a blue Red teh down color, and leg color both make sense.

Morning Sooner and all!
Glad you had a good evening Carah. Hope the weekend turns out nice for ya. We are supposed to have rain but no sales so I guess its okay.
here are a couple of quilts I finished the last couple of weeks. These are going to be at the june meeting. The blk/white one is called Box Kite,I forget the name of the pink one,but it was some kind of star. I didn't know the swastika pattern would show up or I wouldn't have done it. Diffentently not my favorite!

Those are lovely Wayne. Nice colors. The star pattern is one of the Mosaic stars...I think Spinning Star or Milky Way. It does not have the swastika look like some of the others patterns. In fact, the swastika is a Greek religious symbol and in Chinese means well being and good fortune long used in quilting before WWII.

No chance to mix up. Blue reds are not laying yet, and this pair of brown reds have been together. May have to put them down on the ground. All my brown reds starters came from Charles Conners. I never cross any of my birds except the BB Reds with the blue reds. I need to take a picture of some of my rosecomb, oe crosses. I have some very pretty color. One outstanding BBred cockerel. These will be all second generation cross.
