***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks for all your help Okies, I knew I could count on you. I was just about to put the check in the mail and I think I will hold off. there is a new kid that just bought the place in January and that makes me even more nervous bout using them. Now I will have to look for another incubator source. but thanks again.

I know what I spent with them, I could have bought a pretty nice used GQF or similar type and been hatching eggs the last 2 seasons. I wish you luck.

They should be done cooking by sunday or Monday and time to make room again for the next weeks hatch which is a bit bigger.

I just candled the Cochin eggs, you have 6 definetly infertile, 4 that I know are developing and 2 the shell was hard to see through so left them as well. So out of 14 you have 8 still in teh incubator 2 that I question.

I move these to the hatcher on feb. 16 so they should be ready for pick-up the 20th.

I'm just tickled there are that many that could possibly hatch. I'm sure there is a lot of jostling crossing several states no mater how well wrapped the eggs might be. And you have told me about low fertility issues with the Cochin breed.
After I get back from Florida on the 22nd, I'll work on my AI techniques with Samson and Delilah and see if we can't get some good % numbers then. I appreciate your willingness to hold my babies until I get back.

Way to go old*cowboy! You're going to have a bunch of babies! You are going to have to share pictures.

Oh Wayne! Those are the most beautiful quilts in the world!! I LOVE hand made blankets! You said you're bringing them to the June get together for a raffle? Oh mercy, I'm going to have to buy a LOT of raffle tickets.....
Nana, I hope Roger gets to feeling better. I just had that crud going around and it lasted a month. I still don't feel right. I got it the night of the Newcastle auction. Which is odd because one of the birds I got that night brought home the chicken-version of it and it's making the rounds between the birds. Thankfully my Favs didn't get it and my Cochins are away from most the others. I did lose one though, scary.
Sheesh, as far as the Guineas-I've got the 3 boys caught now but it's the dang noisy *girls I want to get given away! I can't see being able to catch the girls, they won't let me within 20'.

If you do catch them send them my way!!! We need girls. I bought 14 last year and all but 2 were males @@. So now I have lots of boys running around the yard puffing themselves up for what? 2 females that are already penned up with a prospective partner, lol. I really need a pearl female I have a lavender and a buff female.

I'm getting a new brooder! Yippee! As long as hubby doesn't figure out i will just have more places to stash chicks, I'm good! Thanks Carl!

not a problem, JCat is getting teh second brooder I will be taking it to Mike in the morning at Mary's.
I think this has worked out for all of us, I didn't need as many brooders after getting rid of the Big birds, this will allow me to re-structure the brooder building and get additional conditioning pens / trio breeder pens in there, and other get to benefit from the extra equipment I did not need anymore at a reasonable price and the right time of year.

Mitzi got all my extra waterers and several of the extra feeders,
Your husband just left with the brooder so you should expect him before the sun goes down.
Jcat will have a brooder for her DD tomorrow.

Yep, all is good.

Time to go home, ya'll behave ~

DD is very excited about the brooder. She gets so frustrated cleaning out waterers & feeders all the time. Despite our best efforts to keep the waters clean some how chicks manage to dirty the water with shavings. She plans on putting it on the desk in her room. I am sure after listening to birds for a few nights she will change her mind!

I always got real good fertility out of that rooster just by plucking him and the hens spring and fall was normally 85-90% heat of summer was a lot lower though. With AI they should do reall good too.
