Carl here are some of the rosecomb from the hatch.
That is the F1 hen, and 2 of the rosecombed. One pullet, and one cockerel. Have one more pullet in a different pen.

The thread is quiet tonight! I have been slowly watching chicks hatch, so far only 12. Lots of pipped eggs still. I will have to use the real camera & take some pics tomorrow. The eggs were SUPPOSE to all be black copper maran. I have one that hatched & has feathered feet, but looks nothing like his brothers & sisters. Think a different roo may have snuck in a visit with momma hen.

We moved some pens around today, to get the breeding pens on fresh grass. Also worked on getting all the birds wormed. Sold my "city" lean to style greenhouse. When the couple came out to get it, DH discovered a large nest of eggs that were in the barn. Think we came out with 22 green eggs. DD was just saying earlier this wk that one of her birds must have moved her nest. Guess she was right!

Anyone have big plans for the wk? I am going to be working on tending to seedlings & Valentines Candy Grams for school. Then Saturday I will be @ a plasticulture workshop all day, guess afterwards I can stop by the auction.

Elwood-- I want on the top of the list for barred rock chicks. I just love the long feathers on those roos!

Jarvis, DH tore the brooder box apart & rewired it all. Sometimes the man acts as if he doesn't have enough projects. Do you line the bottom trays with anything. Just wondering what has worked best for you. I would prefer we line the tray then toss the liner instead of scrubbing the tray.

update on the lonely silky chick, i think i figured part of the problem, she was cold and mom silky is weaning her, so she had no way to stay warm- sooo.... tonites solution-


she is sound asleep under the teddy- not sure whether to set up a lamp outside for her? since mom is trying to wean her, would that just complicate things? if she was in the silky pen?

Well beings the wife is gone, I hope to get alot of stuff I been wanting to do done. You know, stuff that she wasnt quit sure I needed to do. Figure it will be easier asking for forgiveness, than permission. Plus she knows as slow as I am, once it is done it will take me forever to undo it. I plan on moving the couch and building some shelves in the south windows to get some early tomatoe plants going. Would be awesome to have the green house like been talking about on here, but know that will be at least late summer. So this way can get some started at least. Figure she wont mind the couch being out from the wall a couple feet. After all it is only two of us and kesha the boxer so we dont need all that room.

Then I am going to clean out the building that I will be brooding my chicks in so can get my brooder in and running. Have Doc appointment in OKC VA wed. have to talk to surgeon to figure when they are going back in my head to be done with all that mess. All this would take a normal person 2 maybe 3 days, but below normal folk like me will probable be lucky if it all gets done this week. But I dare to dream, and who knows I might get it all done sooner.

My "big plans" for the first part of this week anyway is to work on building my new chicken coop. I've gathered a lot of free supplies and started laying the floor out. I think the only parts I will have to buy are the roofing material and the hardware cloth.

She will be okay Robin. Don't want to coddle them to much,they have to learn to survive,it's tough love chicken style!lol

Jcat I guess everyone is watching the bowl game. So far no memorable commercials!

Cowboy,sounds like I need to import some guinea pigs to ya! They only bring about 3-4 dollars here at the auction!

Got some more rabbits today,two does and a buck and one lion head doe has nine baby's!
