***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Forgot all about super bowl-- we don't have tv, except Netflix DVDs.

Cowboy you will have a few months to round up supplies to build a place for plants. If you get things together by fall inside the greenhouse would be a good place to grow a fall garden. If you can find someone giving away windows it would be more durable & cheaper than doing plastic. DH is the one who usually makes messes around here & with 950 square ft anything out of place seems to be a mess He doesn't fuss when I have projects like seed trays & craft stuff-- think he knows where all the real messes come from. However the other day he did snap when he couldnt find a place on the desk & say he would be glad when we pick out a house plan we both liked. So do you cook when your wife is gone? My DH would be having chips & salsa or hot pockets. He doesn't know how to make anything else.

Robin I imagine your baby is happy with the company. Does she have a roost she can get too? That seems to help entertain them sometimes.

How is it that people who have chickens always need to build more coops? Think there should be a disclaimer about the way coops multiply.

Doodle can't remember what the guineas brought last night but it was high-- p&b said grandkids must have been involved. No one would have paid that much without a grandkid asking for them.

I just had 4 cold hotlinks from the package. (I actual like hotlinks better this way), some celery, tomatoes and will pop popcorn in micro before I go to bed. If that aint cooking I dont know what is.

Cowboy, sounds like I need to import some guinea pigs to ya! They only bring about 3-4 dollars here at the auction!
Got some more rabbits today, two does and a buck and one lion head doe has nine baby's!

I thought that was pretty high on the pigs. What are rabbits going for there now. Seems like they are getting high here too. Back a couple months ago would have been time to buy. 1 or 2 dollars apiece. If a person could have keep them till now, one flemish giant doe brought mid thirties. Others brought high teens.

I hope everyone enjoyed the day! It was cool, but once the sun came out it was a gorgeous day!

Artsyrobin... that is a creative idea for keeping your silkie warm!

I don't have much planned for this week except homeschooling our kiddoes. This Tues we are taking a field trip to OKC, and then we have to be back in the afternoon because my hubby has to teach a class.

I have 6 lettuce seedlings sprouting. but they are looking kind of pithy. I just have them on a table near one south window with no grow light. I wonder if they are "straining" to reach for the little sunlight that does make it to the window from mid morning to mid afternoon. I have a shelf in the garage I think I will clear off tomorrow, bring it in the house, and put a grow light on it and see if that will help my future seedlings.

I have been itching to get back in the garden, but the rain made it too muddy. So hopefully it will dry out some this week so I can get back in the yard without making a bigger mess. I found a stable owner who has a ton of manure that has composted in the pile, and he will deliver it to my house for free! I am sure my city neighbors will love me when it is trucked here and dumped on my drive way. Hopefully we can get it moved to the back yard fairly quickly so it isn't an eyesore for more than a a week.

Besides building hoop houses and chicken coops, what else is everyone up to?

Have a great night!

True enough, but this one is as much for my garden as for more chickens. This one will house the chickens that will protect the garden in a garden moat. And

be for meat if I can screw up enough courage to do the job.

I was over on the meat bird threads and read some stuff that got me thinking. Where is a good place to look up regs on things like indivuals (like myself) butchering and selling poultry or eggs to people. Would even look further and find regs on selling vegies grown on farm etc. Anyone know some of this or where to look for it. Thanks

Good Morning Okies'

I feel better this morning~ Jcat I like the green house, wish I had one.
Did everyone do okay at the auction? I hope there is one the weekend I am in the city.
What weekend will you be in OKC?

I couldn't believe anyone paid $19 each for guinea pigs. Of course, I haven't priced them at the Pet store either, so that may have been a good deal when compared to PetsMart. I didn't see the rabbit that sold for $35 up close and personal, but from where I was sitting it did NOT look big enough to be a full Flemish Giant. I saw a Flemish Giant breeder at the auction last night, so maybe he brought it. I just don't think there was any way that rabbit weighed at least 13 lbs, as is required to meet the Standard..

The other day someone on here was talking about bee equipment, honey extracters etc. May have been Poco I think ?? Anyway, I have a friend in Clinton that used to have lots of bees and sold honey. He hasnt in sometime. He may be interested in selling his extracters and other equipment. If you are interested I will ask.
