***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Does anyone mind telling me what shows are going on this winter/spring? I would like to go to them....I can't seem to find it.

Other than 4h I am only aware of 2 left this spring.. That will be the Great Plains Game bantam classic in Newcastle on feb. 25th and Pryor on March 3rd. Other than that it will be fall.
The fall show season will start with Newcastle again hosted by the Newcastle Poultry Association, foloowed teh next day at the same location by the Texas all game bantam show.
here are a few links, or you can subscribe to the poultry press and monitor the APA ABA websites too.

I've been trying to figure out how that was supposed to work but I think I have it now, Now I need to figure out how to move pictures from one album into another one without having to upload it again,

I figured that out the other day. Go into the album you want to move the pic from, then click on the choice to "reorder pictures" that will display all your albums on the left of the page and all the pics in the album you are in currently on the rt, then just click and drag and drop the pics individually into whichever album you want.

I think if the potatoes sprout they have not been sprayed w/ the treatment. I had always heard the reason not to plant store potatoes is they aren't certified free of some disease, but have known MANY people who use them every year and have for many years and have had no problems.

What a novel idea.....planting potatoes you buy at the store. I bet even those would grow for me. Heck, they grow under the counter in the bag, why not in the dirt for someone with a black thumb??

They work well for me, let them start to grow some eyes, cut them in half and place them cut side down about 6 inches under teh ground. In about 3-4 weeks a plant will begin to emerge. To maximize production you can use tires, or I cut 5 Gallon bucket bottoms out and place over the plant. Then as teh plant grows I add soft soil to the bucket

Great information and will try it out! I tried potatoes last year and the new potatoes did much better than the regular type potato....maybe it's the soil?

I had a question on hatching. I am using a little giant as my hatcher. I moved eggs into it today for hatching and put warm water in it....the temp in the incubator 3 hours since I put them in there is a couple of degrees too low...should I adjust tht temp or wait longer to allow it to regulate some more?

Thanks so much. I knew Pryor would be coming up. MAybe I can make that one!

For the soil for potatoes-- if you have a hard time digging the ground to plant the potatoes, think how hard it will be for that tiny potato to grow roots & offspring. All root veggies need soil that is well draining also- so they are not sitting in water & rotting.
Good luck on the potatoes!

I grew some through the winter in a 5 gallon bucket in teh garage.. just don't over water or forget about them. You can plant them in the buckets, drill drain holes in teh bottoms and then when the weather gets better dig them in a hole outside and they are easier to harvest since the potatoes will be in the bucket. then you can also stack the buckets easier.

Last year was the first time I tried poatatoes, so will improve this year.---I hope!
