***OKIES in the BYC III ***

AllBreeds, what kind of chickens are those black and white ones??
No one here has Dark Brahma eggs, do they? Just in case I might want a couple to add to my little bantam Fav flock lol

Hello...I am new to BYC and looking for a little help. I currently live in Kansas and do not have chickens. It looks as if we will be moving to the OKC area within the year and we would like a home with an acre or more and I would like to have a few chickens and ducks. I grew up with farm animals and really miss them. My question is in regards to zoning. A lot of home with acreage are within the city limits of towns. What towns in the OKC area allow poultry? Thx for any input.

If I were to relocate to the OKC metro area knowing what I know, I would look into the Choctaw, Harrah, Newalla, or Bethel acres areas. If you want to be east of OKC. If you want to be west look into the piedmont, deer creek areas. These areas have great school districts (assuming you have or will have school age kids). Very easy access to the various parts of OKC for work activity and the lovely small town feel without being too far from things you might need.
Welocme to the Okies thread, look forward to adding to the Okie Roll call.
Are you relocating with the Boeing expansion in OKC or is it something else?

They appear to be hatchery run silverlaced wyandotte.

Welcome! I am in Lawton. That's an hour or so southwest of OKC. As for zoning I have no idea. Sorry.

Well off to get some birds ready for a show saturday and next saturday, as well as a few others for a demonstration at the schools tomorrow. I wil bounce back on and off periodically through the day..
If anyone needs to contact me for anything calling would be best.

NanaKat,
Your OE eggs are all fertile, the others look good so far too.

Okie Ridge,
The Maran eggs are dark enough it is hard to say for certian at this point, I will candle them again this weekend after they have an opportunity to develop more than veining and will let you know how they are.

I tootally agree with CJ. I live in the Choctaw/Newalla area. Technically I am in the OKC city limits so I have OKC, police, fire and sanitation but we are still considered rural.

Hi and welcome to the Okie thread and BYC. I am a former Kansan myself, born and raised but love Oklahoma. If you are looking for something in city limits, there is usually a lot size requirement for having livestock. I think Norman and Oklahoma City require several acres before you can have chickens, goats, etc. Of course on the outer fringes the laws are a bit more laxed. Most cities have a no rooster rule in city limits, if chickens are allowed at all.
Hope this helps, I am sure there are far more knowledgable people on here who can give more information.
