I unintentionally started a new garden project. It is something I read about last year and decided not to do, but while I was cleaning out the back yard realized I already had half of what I needed for it. But this is going to be very low priority so while I'm starting it now (piling the wood) it will probably take a couple of years to complete enough to plant. It is called hugelkulture.![]()
Hello...I am new to BYC and looking for a little help. I currently live in Kansas and do not have chickens. It looks as if we will be moving to the OKC area within the year and we would like a home with an acre or more and I would like to have a few chickens and ducks. I grew up with farm animals and really miss them. My question is in regards to zoning. A lot of home with acreage are within the city limits of towns. What towns in the OKC area allow poultry? Thx for any input.
They're beautiful! I've got a tiny Silver Laced Cochin but she's never been real healthy. She acts like she's got the chicken version of chronic fatigue syndrome. S.he keeps plugging along although I keep expecting to lose her one day.
My LF Cochin boys decided 3 was a crowd in their bachelor pen today, they're 7 months old now and so huge. The 2 splash's got into it, flung blood all over the place & tore each other up. I know which one always starts it so I put him in one of the 8x8 pens and I guess I'll put a few girls in with him, probably the 2 Marans girls. I don't want my 4 LF Cochin girls in with any malesThey're my most special babies in the world and I can't stand the thought of them getting the feathers yanked out of their heads and bred all day long. Banish the thought! It blows that I won't be able to keep the 3 Cochin boys together but that's life with testosterone filled males.![]()
