***OKIES in the BYC III ***

OK, I have to laugh at this. I grew up with a dad who showed and raised rabbits. We often had more than 200 at a time. After reading this forum for a couple of days I have decided you are all nuts...I'm sure I'll fit right in.

Since yoo brought it up... Chicken Math 101

Chicks don't count as chickens
Roosters don't count as chickens
Bantam Hens are 1/4 of a chicken
Serama Hens are 1/8 of a chicken
Molting hens do not count as chickens
Count how many eggs you got today, that's how many chickens you have..

End of lesson 1 there are other rules that apply to selling swaping, trading and processing

HAHA I like that kind of math!!! In that case we have 6 chickens and 1 guinea. Got our first guinea egg today!!!!

Quote: Going by the math my nine chickens sure do eat a LOT!!

Anyone know this song? LOL
"I'm not strange I'm just like you, I like to do what Nor-Nor-Normal people do"

I can't quote all the song, not because I don't remember it but, I want to stay on the site a while yet

I bought 3 GQF brooders on craigslist yesterday, i need to get them all cleaned up & ready to fill with chicks. Not sure if we will keep all the brooders (since we now have 4) but i am sure DD will use them all in the upcoming weeks. She is getting more eggs ready to set in the incubator. The birds did not like the cold weather we had last wk, but the strike appears to be over & they are laying like normal again.

Today I noticed my big mean roo has lost his crow. He tries to crow but only a squeak comes out. He looks 100% healthy & is still quick to try & flog you. I gave him some sulmet in his water & will monitor him.

For 2 days I have Been messing with a new thermostat DH installed in a GQF cabinet incubator-- it was being way crazy. Lowest I could get it was 103 highest was 110. Finally got a call back from GQF & they said I needed to send the the thermostat back & they would test it to verify.

Kass hope you feel better soon. It's awful to be sick when it is so pretty outside. Today was one of those days where I could have sat outside & watched the goats & birds play in the yard all day.

I just want to say no fair on the guinea egg! I had about 50 guineas & still haven't found an egg! I have gotten 3 eggs from my peahen though! My guineas must be holding out on me.

Robin - He looks so pretty now! Sorry I didn't have time to bathe him before bringing him to you.

Joe - The eggs arrived today in perfect condition. I'm letting them rest and I'll set them tomorrow. Your timing is perfect. My last big hatch just ended and I have the Sportsman cleaned and the temperature is back where it should be. I'll also be setting some Sussex, Barnevelder, Barred Rock, White Chantecler, Dark Cornish, Cornish crosses, Naked Necks, and a few Blue Andalusians.

Here are a few baby pictures: Barnevelders, White Chantecler & RIR, and Turkens.

Please send good juju my way. My BFF had a cancer scare but we found out Monday that it was not anything as bad as we thought then on the same day one of my other friends, whom I have known forever, tells me she is getting a divorce and is devastated and yesterday another one of my friends for a coon's age has skin cancer. Don't even want to get in about my DD and what she is having to go through. I need for my friends and loved ones to have a break.

Okay so now that I have been Debbie Downer. Let me say I am so glad I found this website and thread. I have met so many wonderful people who I love dearly. The great thing about this site and especially this thread, is it has brought together people who would never met in any other circumstances if not for our love of chickens. A quote I heard a while back that always has stuck with me "No one is so good or wealthy that they don't need friends".

Have a marvelous day everyone!
X2 - can't wait to see lots of folks at POOPS and at NEOCS! It is going to be terrible for two weeks w/o Blanchard and Newcastle. Maybe will have to go to Harrah and/or go to Mary's Saturday.

My girls are laying more; about a dozen a day. Last month there was an average of 7 and December's average was 4. Now I will start collecting for setting. Can't stand seeing pics of chicks and not having some real ones. I saw some pics of Cochin babies on the Cochin thread and that put me over the edge!
