***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Oh my gosh! All the bird pictures are making me jealous!

Mefordz - those pigeons are beautiful! You really shouldn't post things like that. I have no self control when it comes to pretty birds and I don't want to have to build a place to keep some of those. I've got my hands full now. What breed are they, anyway? I've never seen those kinds before, but then, I'm not familiar with most pigeons. The only ones I've seen are the kinds that poop on the car in parking garages and a few at the show in Shawnee.

It was such a pretty day out today! I didn't get much done outside, but got to visit with my lawyer and hairdresser for a while. Twice with the lawyer. Thank goodness he doesn't charge by the hour. He's quite long-winded.

Robin - your boy is nice looking. Glad you got another silkie boy.

Carl - you got my vote too. I've never known you to be anything but kind, generous and helpful to everyone here. You're a great resource of information and I appreciate your knowledge and experience.

We went to Atwoods in Shawnee today, their chicks got delayed in the mail with the holiday so needless to say they had lots of DOA ones. Then the ones we went to look at (Bantams) were pretty punney looking. I knew several wouldn't make it through the next hour the others were running them over. Kurt wanted a few of them and I told him to wait we would find some that were taken better care of. But the bigger chicks looked good but the man working back there said they lost some of those as well.

I have been avoiding Atwoods on purpose because Allbreeds (Lisa) is supposed to bring me chickens next week. I would much rather get some from her then there. I can barely stand the wait.

These guys you want eggs from? Sure, as many as you want! I love these 3 birds, they're beautiful the way they match haha. What can I do to help with the project? I bet I could collect up these eggs and you could pay Carl to hatch them (he hardly charges a thing). You'd get a nice selection of splash, blue and black bearded Cochins. That'd be cool.

Oh Yes! Yes! Yes! Please!!!!! That would be great. I am just looking for good birds, especially the fact that the rooster has such heavily feathered feet and the girls have such lovely beards. Since the birds I am using to develop this breed are already established, this enables me to keep genetic diversity and still breed for the traits I am wanting to foster.
I already have a broody hen to stick any eggs under. Actually I think I may have another going broody as well.

Oh course when I get the program really up and going, I probably will have Carl hatch eggs for me just to give the girls a break. I really suck at hatching using an incubator. It would be better leaving it to an expert.

Thank you, Thank you

first one is a bleeding heart, never had 1 but would like too.
second are frills, i have had several of these.
3rd is called a nicobar, i saw one of these somewhere years ago. talk about beautiful in the sunlight! last is a crowned pigeon, would almost kill for one of them. never seen one, but would love to have some breeders!

you need to go to a pigeon show sometime, more breeds and varieties of pigeons than there are chickens.

Late morning for me. Storms kept me awake, and then Conner decided he needed to go out and patrol the yard at 3:00 a.m. I don't know why he thought that was a good time. It sure seemed early to me.

I'm trimming goat hooves again today. With all the recent rain I want to be sure my does don't have any problems with their feet.

I've been reading about compost tumblers. Does anyone have experience with the oldest version, the Compos Tumbler? They're pricey, but the design looks better than the plastic barrels. With all the goat, chicken, and cow manure that's free, I figured I could motivate my garden this year with some compost that didn't come out of a bag.

Anyone else on here joining the Easter Hatch Along? There's an egg swap that's running in conjunction with the hatch along. It's a mystery swap, so you don't know what you'll get... but that's part of the Easter Surprise for me. It would be neat to see what the Okies end up with on hatch day

A compost tumbler is fairly easy to make. Use a 55 gallon drum and cut 1/2 of one end out and hinge that part in the center and put a latch on it. Above that drill about a 1in. hole close to the rim of the drum. On the other end drill another hole on the opposite side of the first hole and run a 1" pipe through the barrel. Build a stand to set it on and you are done. Add stuff to the barrel when the door is up and empty with the door in the down position.

I'm sure that if you visit the Mother Earth News site there are plans there somewhere.

I would like to have some Romanian Naked Neck pigeons but last I looked there are none here in the US.

Those that you posted are beautiful.

I thought on one of the pigeon forums I am on someone said here while back they had some here in USA. I will do some looking for you. Might have been my imagination.

Well Doc called me today and said that the stress test I took yesterday showed I had a heart attack recently. Sucks when you hurt so bad everyday you dont even know when something like that happens.

That would be cool, Thanks. I happened to run across some pics one night by accident, And I thought NN chickens looked strange! The pigeons look like they are shaved, very smooth skin on their necks.
