Thank you for looking!
thats what it appears to be.

Haha! I love Walt because of his name!

Well I have to say he is named after my oldest sons godfather. He was the only one with a gray little head of fuzz. He has to be in the middle of everyone at all times and he cries the loudest of them all when it is feeding time. He is always the one to dog pile into a pile of sleeping brood mates. I am sure his broodmates pray he gets put in a different brooder than them when I clean brooders, lol. But he is my favorite of all the chicks, go figure.

Just west of it, That's really funny that we know each other LOL I know there are a lot of people that raise chickens around and some I know but haven't till now met anyone that I already knew here on BYC

I figure you already said so but what kinds of chickens do you have or are looking for?

I'm getting 5 Red Stars from another lady I met at work. She lives near you too. She just got a bunch of them and will keep mine until they're out of the brooder. Right now I have 3 mutts, 1 bantam roo and 2 hens. They're all that's left of a bunch I got from my neighbor's pre-teen daughter when she had way too many hatching all over their place and got bored with taking care of them. They used to run all over the yard but one of the other neighbor's dogs ended up eating most of them and we lost a few to the winter storms we had last year because they all insisted on roosting in the cedar trees. Now I have a completely enclosed 20 x 30 x 6 run for them, and have modified the coop into sections so the new girls will have their own space to start.

FYI for anyone else reading... I know Elwood cuz he's a customer where I work and I recognized the pic he has for an avatar.

I live about 7 miles West of Purcell. Elwood knows where but have not met him yet.
If I can remember when the sales are then maybe I can meet some fellow Okie BYC members.

Samantha

I may know you too, ever been to the pharmacy at wally-world?
Off to bed soon, we put up a round pen for the horses today, and of course I just had to work them in it, and I'm beat.

See y'all later!

Wow! Some of y'all have LOTS of chicks! What on earth are you going to do with all of them?

I had another Serama hatch yesterday and it looks like three more should hatch soon, then that's it. I've taken away all but the most developed eggs and will work on getting them un-broody. It looks like only one of the eight has decided to do that on her own. There others will probably need help.

A few months ago I got a couple of hens from the Newcastle auction. I don't know what one of them is but she is my best layer, and now SHE has gone broody. She nearly takes my hand off when I go to gather eggs. There's no rooster with my egg layers so her sitting is futile.

Bill - those hens you got from me were Red Stars. They came from Atwoods. You might be able to get some more like them now that they're selling chicks again.

I see broody as the hen's version of PMS and considering it is or soon will be spring.... its logical that they are "in the mood" at this time of year.

Are there supplements or light therapy or some other technique You use to get them off of broody? I would think that just like the light plays a role in our cabin fever / seasonal depression... it must play a role in triggering broodiness in hens.

Any insight from other BYC hobbyists?
