***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Buster I am tempted to tell you I would like to order some broilers with you. Then I look in my freezer & look at the 20+ I need to butcher this month & I am thinking maybe we have enough chicken already.

Coral I will be sure to bring the book & pattern to poops. I will try to set them aside now & put your name on them.

I will for sure post as I have guinea eggs, since hatching eggs will consume my house & life for the next couple of months.
Tonight we pulled 40 chicks out of the hatcher & some are still hatching. They came almost a day slower this time so I need to double check my temperatures. Thinking maybe something got bumped.

Where is Ksane?? Anybody know?

Evening all, had to pop in and say hello, been real busy around here still more to go. Got to see NanaKat and Okieridge tonight always a pleasure with both. Now to go pull my chicks from teh hatcher and get things together for the next day. Be back shortly.

Thanks about the book and patterns. I'm looking forward to reading one and making the other. We have power surges and outages nearly every day. The power company blames in on wind, old wires, and phantoms. Sometimes the power is off for a minute. That's a long time. It can mean the temperature in my Sportsman drops one or two degrees. Is there any way for you to know if you've lost power? We have an alarm clock that resets to noon if we have an outage. It's helped me understand why some of my hatches are a day later than expected.

I agree. Totally different animals. Apples are meaner.

My three bigger chickens that I got from Lisa yesterday are gone. Two are nowhere to be found. One was on the ground picked pretty clean. I thought I saw a hawk in the area yesterday and should have been more careful. Tonight we are putting chicken wire over the top of the chicken pen. This is a big blow to me. If I have this much trouble in town, what am I going to do if I move to the country? One of the bigger chickens were in the small coop and the rooster was in the big one. My other hen was in the small space under the coop hiding. If I keep losing chickens I may give this up. I feel like I'm starting over all the time.

I hate it every time I lose one. I sometimes wonder if I am cut out for chickens; me being so tender hearted and them being so vulnerable to so much. I am not giving up though - there is much more to gain than lose.
