***OKIES in the BYC III ***

off topic, does anyone have a black cat? i have a client that wants this portrait done, but the pic is less than ideal- i just need a pic of one in a similar pose???

I do a lot of graphics work and would be happy to improve that pic for better use. You could email it to me, and I'll send it back when done. Might have time to get finished with it this evening, if not by tomorrow evening. Whatcha' think?

Some pretty egg pictures from the last 3 days, the girls have been busy !

My girls a busy, busy, busy too. My Self-Blues that haven't layed since the middle of November started again today. My hens sure are a fickle bunch; the Self-blues were nonstop layers, and never broody till last Nov. when one started setting. The others abruptly went on egg vacation and waited till now to start again. My partridge Cochins never stop. If one does go broody I have to check under her for the other's snuck in eggs.

Rain rain go away! Had about three inches so far and still coming down. Did make the radishes and lettuce sprout up tho.

Cowboy,I got your birds sorted out today. All the kites will be hens and the almonds male. Just worked out that way. Had more almond males than hens! Sorted out twenty five pairs to keep back, that's about maxing me out for room! Had a guy come by today and took some but still have over seventy to get rid of!

I need some advice. Our 3 week old Barred Rocks have been fine until tonight I went to clean the brooder and one of the twelve in one of the brooders has blood coming from somewhere. I can only guess that it is having bloody poops. Should I just say it is probably Cocci and treat as such? If so where do I find Corid tonight to treat with? I can drive to Atwoods or Tractor Supply either one but I need to know what I am looking for lol.

I should add they are all acting fine and have been on medicated chick starter since day one. But if this is Cocci I don't want it spreading, I want to nip it before it gets out of hand.

Okie ridge what type of brooder are you using? The copper marans I hatched didnt do well on wire floor. They would get raw bloody rears. Then the other chicks would peck on them so the problem would get even worse. Once I moved them onto shavings they didn't have any other problems. I have had RIR & EE on wire flooring with no problems. I don't know why the copper marans gave such a problem.

Bloody poops sounds like cocci. TSC has Corrid, and they may also carry Sulmet. Both treat cocci. I'd look near wormers and milk and colostrum replacements for Corrid or Sulmet. Corrid comes in a yellow bag, I think. When your chicks are better, you can build up their good digestive tract bacteria by feeding some plain yogurt.

They are on a dirt floor with pine shavings on top. They started in a rubbermaid tub in the house for 2 weeks then last weekend moved to the floor brooder in the feed house. I don't see where the blood is coming from so that is why I figured they were passing it in their poos. I picked them all up and looked them over but couldn't find any injuries.

Many thanks sir. I am excited. Did they come from a flying loft. If so, I need to get started on a kit box for them. It would be awesome to have nothing but almonds flying high above spinning down.

You can get Corrid at Atwoods, likely only by the gallon, Shawnee feed has the quarts and gallons.
The Medicated feed will only help control Cocci and not prevent so teh bird can develop an imunity to it. There are 9 forms of Cocci, and very similar to e-coli it is everywhere and exposure can not be eliminated but must take place for teh birds to be healthy adults.
