Good Morning Okie's! Looks like everyone is doing just what they should, hatch more & aquire more chickens! The weather was wonderful yesterday, I hope we get more of the same today so I can enjoy it. DD had soccer yesterday so no playing outside.
Buster sorry about your girls, I hope you get whatever that was! Thats bad if it took on both dogs!
Good morning everyone!!! I get my eggs in today!!!!! Excited. Glad it's nice out because I have classes today so I have no clue when they will be dropped off. They should be fine on my porch right?? Can't believe I'm going to be a Silkie mom soon. Maybe I got high hopes but hey. Positive thoughts going into this. lol Hope you all have a wonderful day Okies!!
DH has had a CPAP machine for at least 4 yrs now. Was a huge adjustment for him. Awesome for me, if he doesn't wear his mask I don't sleep. At first I had to have the tv on to drown out the sound of the machine, but the machine sounds so much better than listening to him snore. In the army severe sleep ap is 50% disability. So thankful he was tested early. He ads essential oils to the water in his machine, he says it helps. Think he is using rosemary oil right now. Make sure your machine is level with your bed or higher-- if not water finds its way into the mask. DH would wake up saying the machine was trying to drown him!
Buster, sorry about your pups, hope they mend quickly and whatever it was is caught soon. Maybe it got the worst of the fight.
Cowboy, you will find once you sleep better you will feel better during the day. Our old pastor had apnea and said it was amazing how much better he felt during the day once he wasn't snoring all night.
Hubby finished the brooders (well minus paint but that will wait until summer when I'm not hatching anymore chicks for a while). Here are a few pictures.
Here they are in the works, he made them where all the dividers come out so I can make bigger brooders if I need to. Poor little darlings will have to listen to the washers and dryers going most all day (yes we have 2 of each but with 6 kids it is a must, lol). The fronts slide out as well to make cleaning easier. They are on a pedistal that came out of the house's original closets. It has 4 drawers in it so now I can keep extra feeders and what not down there.
Here they are with their wire covers, hubby has now decided he wants to put wire inserts in the doors on top as well so he will add those this week.
here are last weeks hatch exploring their new brooder.
and last but not least the little banty cochin brooder. These guys crack me up. They were running around spreading their wings like they were big guys. They are a blast to just sit and watch. Told hubby I need wire fronts so I can sit down there and just watch them play.
Thank you all for the wonderful advice about trying the online auctions. It is so hard to say no sometimes when I see all the pretty birds! I have to keep reminding myself to choose just a few and get settled then add some more. Problem is I want them now! LOL I never never thought I would be interested in showing and then I had to go and wander around the poultry show at the Shawnee Expo last December.
Maybe I will get lucky and the thought will pass.... Yeah right, that is going to happen.
lol I'm in the same boat as you, I want all the breeds I had before and then some and I'm having a hard time reminding myself I have years to create my flock. I've never been to a show. Probably a good thing
First chick is out in the hatcher. Lots more have pipped. Glad it is warm enough chicks can go straight into the brooder in the barn. When it is way cold out I always keep the chicks in brooder boxes in the house, after a few days I don't find them very enjoyable in my living room.
DH came in tonight & said I was looking tan, guess the all day tractor rodeos are to thank for the new tan.
For those of you that plant bush beans-- what is your favorite kind & why? I plan on doing top crop for a green bean. I love black-eye peas, but no one else here will touch that! I bought some yard long beans to try out, no real expectations. Just an experiment.
I want to move the ducks out asap. I don't mind the chicken brooders, I kind of like hearing the noised from them and the turkeys. I don't find the mess too bad, but I want to give the ducks the boot.
I have my hova-bator set up and on since this afternoon. Just to get this temp right. I should be getting in eggs tomorrow. So I know I should let them sit out to room temp. But I've read 4 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours or just over night. What is best? And then I read its best to set your eggs on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Not possible for me but just wondering why they suggested that as a tip on the site I was reading??
I think the reason they suggest that is so they hatch on the weekend when you are there to supervise, but I could be wrong. I'd love to hear opinions on letting them rest before setting. I was planning on overnight, anyone believe longer is better?
DH stopped breathing a couple weeks ago for probably 40 seconds or so. I'm trying to convince him to go in for a sleep test. Or hell if I could get him to just go to a dr I'd be happy
