***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Posted this over in Breeds What Am I but not getting any love over there. Can anyone here tell me what they think this little brown stripey bird might be? It is supposed to be a standared brown egg layer but I can't match it up to anything inthe catalog. I ordered 12 assorted, like donuts. Not doing that again. It's making me crazy trying to place this bird. They are 3 weeks old.

Welsummer! =)

Cathiesue...cute babies. I'll have to check my catalog for ideas on that baby. Looks like Graceful Bantams beat me to it! She's GOOD!

CowBoy...Hubby had severe sleep apnea and used two different CPAP machines and a nebulizer as well.
The hose on his mask was long enough that it made a loop below head level. A cllection bag was attached there. This accumulated the extra moisture from the CPAP and the nebulizer so that it didn't drown him. Oxygen deprivation from sleep apnea can kill you! And can be severe enough a trach tube is surgically inserted to increase air/oxygen in the blood.
All the major surgeries he had last Jan and April 2011 made it possible for him to have his trachea tube removed and he no longer needs his CPAP. He also was able to give up the oxygen machine.

Congrats to all the egg delivery receivers...hope you have good hatches.

Thanks Grace! I got mine from Meyer. I'll really be excited if it's a Welsumer those are so be-u-tee-full. My little yellows look like yours artsyrobin. They are getting more buff colored and less yellow. Well, I like them all. I got 4 different kinds of blacks. I think. Working nthe run this wekend althought they alredy are out in the coop. Yesterday I'm pretty sure that were happy for the fresh air when I opened the windows out there. Having fun with my chicks. Okies Rule!

No problem :) The Welsummers and the Brown Leghorns are two egg-breed chicks that look very similar, but the BL lay white eggs not brown!
Those yellow looking chicks are probably Sex-Links.

Friend sent me these photos saying "What fun God must have had the day He designed these beauties".

I definately have some chickens that are "special". They have had access to all 8 gardens around their coop until this week or so, I have been blocking off gardens as I start to plant some. 7 of the gardens have been basically barren of vegetation, but one is lush and green w/ fall greens and roots that didn't do well but still have lots of leaves and the turnips all blooming bright yellow everywhere anyway basically a chickens dream, but I am having to lock off the barren gardens to force them into the green lush one.

The east garden of each coop I've designated as the summer run, it will be the most shaded and I've got plans for adding to the natural shade. I have been working on the prep work to those two gardens, and blocking the majority of the gardens off from the chickens all day.

We are changing where the chickens come and go so we can have an automatic coop door, this meant moving part of a fence and a T post, I am here to tell you when you plant a T post make sure you aren't going to want to move it!!!!!! Digging through sand stone in very tight quarters, it took nearly 1.5 hrs just to move that one post.

Kass if we need to move tpost I put the picket pounder on the post & wiggle it for a little while, but we have sandy soil so probably not a solution for your area.

I am exhausted from my day of gardening. Plastic mulch & irrigation is laid. They ran out of plastic before the full acre was covered, but I will just put melons in the area with no plastic.

About 7 today I went to open a window & saw a skunk out front. Of course the boys saw it too & they ran barking. Bailiff got sprayed & retreated. The other 2 stayed at it for a good 30 minutes. About noon while we were laying the plastic I see the skunk again. This time the chickens are chasing the skunk. I go to the house for the riffle, and return to find the skunk laying down in front of the barn. I am sure it had to been sick. It is a small skunk, but not a baby. First time I ever saw one during the day--- even more interesting to see the chickens after the skunk.

Tonight for dinner is pizza hut-- think I am slacking on my housewife duties!
