Sounds like something Kassaundra would try - she is way brave.

Yes, I have not tried it, but ONLY b/c I was worried about it drawing preditors!!!!

Let me qualify that w/ I would only do veggie food scraps (including pasta etc) but would not ever do roadkill or meat.

I really like the idea that I believe greybear first brought up about growing and feeding duckweed, I have been mulling over ideas about that.

Hey Les where did you see this add ... man thats almost in my back door

It was in the farm section of the OKC Craig's List. It has probably been flagged by now as it was in the wrong section, technically. That's why I copied it instead of posting a link to it.

I purchased 50 lbs of wheat last week and want to sprout it for the girls. Any suggestions for the easiest way to present it to them and is there a way to make it "sustainable" so that they can nibble on the greens without pulling it out - roots and all?

Either Teva or I can give her instructions on how to do an injection if needed.

A wife headed towards you with a needle is a good cure to what ails you.

I will give this a try LOL I have seen my chickens eat them from something the dogs drug up, I have always heard that if your chickens eat maggots you have to pour a spoonfull of coal oil or kerosene down their throats to kill them so the maggots don't kill the chicken, That never made sense to me really and I didn't lose birds from it so I don't see why not, My only question would be will this increase or decrease the number of flies that are normal in and around the coops?

Cookie sheets and ladies hose. do the planting in the cookie sheet and slide the entire thing in the hose. The wheat will grow up through it and the hose will keep the seeds from being pulled out. We used that for cockatiels but they don't scratch so expect runners in your hose.
