***OKIES in the BYC III ***

DD didnt kill the snake herself. She was standing on its tail trying to load the 22 when I got over to her. I killed the snake with a hoe, since I didn't want to shoot a hole in the side of the guinea coop. Tried to explain to DD standing on the snakes tail isn't a good choice, but she insisted the snake was distracted by the guineas & wasn't paying attention to her. That girl isn't scared of anything!

We did find an egg in the coop of our fancy colored guineas today! Okie ridge it was a small pullet egg, similar to the ones you collected so far.

Spent the day in OKC at doc. Got home and moved several chicks around. Thanks to Carl and his incubator skills, I have chicks running all over the place. I will probable bring a few blue chicks to Newcastle next sale. I started out breeding my NN blue rooster to several good black hens. 3 of them were spitzhuebans with the top not on them. I will probable thin out all the top knot carrying pullets as I want to retain the heavier ones. Some will be NN and some wont. Doc told me I was going to have a heart Cath. next month. Then in May I have another mass taken out of my head where they did the first surgery. Figured cutting back on the chicks that are not what I am wanting to keep now will help when someone has to do my choirs while doing the medical stuff. The blue chicks out of my NN rooster and the black giant, & black austerlopes are looking real good. The cockerals are growing real fast. I think I might be on to something.

Been turning several asil and asil bantam chicks loose to run the place. They act like they were born in the wild. Setting up some brood pens for some pure American games now. I have enough hens I think I will just let them go broody and raise their own so I can give the brooder a break, (and me).

and the Okie thread. What kind of chicks are you wanting? There is going to be a big Okie chicken event on May 5th, I'm sure there will be lots of chicks there.
Also will be chicken auction in Walters on April9th main st @7pm. We are always hatching Easter Eggers & Rhode Island Reds, but I imagine you can find someone else that has birds closer to you.

Cowboy take it easy! If the chicks are all from your own stock you can always hatch more. Taking care of yourself is more important.

Thanks Joe. They are a young pair,I sure be glad when she starts laying.
Upszdays I think there are around 50-60 of the roller pigeons and I have four sows and a boar of the g pigs. Plus three baby's and two of the sows are very preggo!
The flemmisg giant rabbit, the brown one,had 8 baby's last night! Unfortunately they aren't pure flemmisg as I didn't have a buck then but the next litter will be.
The red rabbit is a mini satin young doe,the black and white is a magpy harlequin.
The black tote cat isn't dead ,she is just in deep sleep! When she goes out ,she really goes out!lol the other cat is our new one.we call her Baby.

Wow cowboy hope everything comes out alright(no pun intended). You take care of yourself and don't push so hard till you get that cath! There is a reason you get those you know! Lol will keep you in our prayers.
I bet you are onto a good cross,I can just see those heavy fluffy butt NNs ! I bet they come out huge!

Thanks. I aint getting rid of any chicks that I wouldnt have anyway. Just going to get rid of them sooner. The whole NN project was to get blue NNs that are largeer than the NNs normaly are. The spitzhueban cross wont be as large as I am shooting for. All the cockerals will get retained for the freezer, but the pullets although not as large as I want, will make someone some real good laying hens. Between the blues I am keeping and the game, I will probably end up with over 250 chicks still this year.

Thank you. For the possible hormonal imbalance, the vet said she could have difficulty using calcium. It could be disorders such as hypothyroidism, Graves disease or others, probably related to her thyroid but he's not sure. It's not an age problem since she is still a young hen - about a year and a half old. I hope it's not that. She sure doesn't look good though. I'm hoping she gets better quickly. I appreciate your well wishes for her, too.

A vet can go in and take the overies out if she continues to lay soft shelled eggs. She will just be a pet but she should live for quite a few years. That surgey is done for hens that are internal layers. Hopefully she straightens back out with the care that she is getting.

Okla and Banjoe, nice pics.

I've been working on the garden today. Got my last tree planted and 14 tomatoes, but have about that many more to plant, the rest I'm going to plant in seeds I think. I got some tomato seeds from plants that grow and produce in Iraq, surly if they can survive and bear there they can handle an Okie summer!

I also got several other cool seeds I was wanting to try all from Baker creek.
