***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I believe we'll go. You never know when something really good's going to turn up!
I have both summer runs completely completed, finally! Totally planted, all the trellising done, now just the wait to see if all the hard work will be worth it and keep the girls more comfy when it gets unreasonably hot.
I did an experiment today I let both groups out to range together today, I was really worried they would fight, but no fighting at all. Oreo was over the moon his girls doubled today. And I was suprised how the roo-less girls took up w/ him they were his groupies for most of the day.

Those chickens have it made and they know it-why would they fight?? lol

I keep changing my mind on what breed I want to concentrate on for the summer yet I keep coming back to the LF Faverolles. This chick came from one my eggs here (Carl hatched it for me) and he's turned out so big and chunky and pretty-I really like him a lot. The 3 LF Fav girls I've got are laying every day and James (the rooster) is super sweet to people and his hens. So I've decided to hatch LF Faverolles eggs. I ordered the bigger Brinsea that holds a couple dozen eggs along with the turner. I guess I'll sell my 10-egg Brinsea as soon as the Silver Laced Cochin eggs in there hatch. I think Faverolles will be easy to re-home or sell extras of and even the males get along well enough that they can live together. And I've got the room. But that's what I decided to do.
Isn't he just adorable? You can't tell so much from the picture but he's really stocky. He's hefty and not 3 wks yet. He just lost his leg fuzz but wants you to know it'll grow back :)

I think you'll do well with whichever breed you want, but glad you've chosen the Favs. They're darling!

Loving all the chick pics.

I grilled some pork chops tonight. MMmmmm good! One of my favorite meals with seasoned green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. Enough for a meal tomorrow, too. Just had to share that with y'all.

i was gonna say something about the "chunky" thing, but decided not to set myself up for the bashing.

and if you wanna see a big difference, i have have some buff orp chicks and oeg chicks in the brooder right now.

orps are bigger for a couple of weeks, then the oeg hit a growth spurt and pass them up. few weeks later the orps catch back up and pass the oeg for the final leg of the race.

Did you catch my post last week that the 2 Serama babies are doing really good?? We put them together because they were really upset apart.
And I had tried Channing with one of the OEGB hens and he beat her up. I had to separate them. He thinks I'm hen enough for him so I'm not going to try to put him with any more girls. He blew his chance lol

I'll have them for ya, I'm coming to town after work tomorrow if your going to be there I'll stop by.

Was that today - Monday? or tomorrow - Tuesday? *lol* I'll be there Tuesday (tomorrow) till 5 and off Wed. & Thurs. Would it be easier for you if I pick them up? I'd be happy to save you the trip to town.

You have Orps? I'd have never figured you for an Orp man :) Somehow the words "growth spurt" and OEGB don't belong in the same sentence lol

Mitzi I can't believe you are upgrading already! I hear a cabinet incubator in your future next.

The plants being cut off at the ground could be cut worms, go out with a flashlight & check the plants now that it is dark & you should see them. Also have had lots of aphid damage & seeing cucumber beetles. I have had damage to everything I planted in white plastic mulch but no damage to stuff in black mulch.

Went to the Walters auction tonight. DD took 20 chicks & we bought an electric smoker & some other stuff. No birds. DH offered to buy many different birds but I didn't see anything I couldn't live without. Overall it was a good crowd. Mike took a good haul of eggs & birds home. Saw buster there too.
