***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Can you over feed chickens? Our chickens eat everything we feed them and I just hope Im not fattening them up too much

I'm sure that that is possible but I have mine (or most of them rather) on self feeders so they have food available all the time I haven't noticed that they overeat or get too fat this way, I have noticed that the ones I feed every day eat more feed than the ones on the self feeder.
NANAKAT is doing a super duper job tracking the raffle items and getting donations and
Sooner is doing her usual stellar job in coordinating the food roundup and tee shirt sales.
Muesky likewise has been great in running the wants and wishes list.
Let's give them all a big hand!

.... Just stop by on your way home tomorrow and you can get them I'll call and give directions it should be right on your way :)

oh no, I dont havr orps, the supreme commander has orps. she only has a very few chicks i hatched for langshan man, and she HAD to have some.

i let her have what she wants, but i draw the line at langshans. she has had blacks, whites, and bantam blacks. now she concentrates on pigeons mostly.

boy I sure am glad you all have been chatting tonight. I am going insane sitting in the car doing nothing. Of course hubby is at home where all the fun is he had 2 people stop by to buy birds.

meanwhile i sit in the car watching the storms west of okc.

Mitzi those are some adorable chicks.

Mitzi I can't believe you are upgrading already! I hear a cabinet incubator in your future next.
The plants being cut off at the ground could be cut worms, go out with a flashlight & check the plants now that it is dark & you should see them. Also have had lots of aphid damage & seeing cucumber beetles. I have had damage to everything I planted in white plastic mulch but no damage to stuff in black mulch.
Went to the Walters auction tonight. DD took 20 chicks & we bought an electric smoker & some other stuff. No birds. DH offered to buy many different birds but I didn't see anything I couldn't live without. Overall it was a good crowd. Mike took a good haul of eggs & birds home. Saw buster there too.

You shoulda' heard my husband lol! He said, "When are you going to learn? I could've told you getting the small one was only going to lead to having to buy a bigger one in 2 wks." haha :) He tried to tell me to get the bigger one a few wks ago and I was just SURE if I got the smaller one I wouldn't be tempted to hatch too many eggs. Sheesh.
I need a source for cockerals is what I need (someone to take them). After the trouble with boys I've had this last year I honestly don't believe I'll be tempted to keep any boys. And while I care about all these new babies I'm also not near as emotionally attached to each one like I was my very 1st hatch (my Cochins). So I think it'll be ok.

My early girl tomatoes are looking sad yellowing and the leaves are getting small holes through the leaves like swiss cheese, I'll post some pics later but any ideas what's wrong?

I'll get close and see if there are any nasty little bugs on them, maybe those hateful spider mites????

Spider mites will have a very fine web and you can tap them off the leaves onto paper. I bet yu have flea beetles...sit quietly be the plants and see if you see tiny jumping bugs return to your leaves....they are not fleas...but beetles. They attack Eggplant and tomatoes as well as lettuce and sometimes the brassicas.
Neem is really good and organic and will nto hurt the birds. It does kill beneficial insects so spray in the late evening to avoid the bees. I often pick off the lady bugs and move them to other plants when I spray with neem
Yellow leaves can also indicate a mineral deficiency..magnesium.. A little compost tea helps...as a foliar spray.

Everything planted here - but a couple of tomatoes started wilting looked at them and guess what - crewed off at the base so I am guessing gohpers? no tunnels or mounds that I can see? any ideas?

I detest cutworms...squish evry one I find. I also have a little hungry bunny in the garden.....got two tomaote and 5 peppers.

it isnt storming in WarrAcres yet. But no way could I sit on the bleechers in the gym for 2 hours. I do hope we make it back to Wellston before these storms make it to the city.
