***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I keep lots of stuff for my taxes, but only because we have 6 rental houses & I am in the dept of ag plasticulture program. The county doesn't ask if the farm generates income, it is only concerned about you having a qualifying farm. We don't even file Oklahoma tax most yrs since DH is military & we don't have enough income in Oklahoma.
Anyone else keep records because of farm tax?

How much land do you have to have to get one. Also what are some of the other qualifications. I buy lots of feed, materials, birds etc. Been thinking about looking into it, but was told 5 acres is not enough land to qualify.

This says 20 acres, http://www.oklahomacounty.org/assessor/farm.htm But I don't think it is correct. I have a friend w 12 acres & she has farm tax & I know Michael has farm tax as well. Have heard the land has to be zoned as agricultural, but don't know if they is true or not. I will say DH LOVES tax free @ lowes! We buy gift cards @ plastic jungle, they are 7% off face value, then he gets 10% military discount, so that is 17% off plus tax free. Sometimes plastic jungle is out of gift cards, but just check back on the website it is always changing!

Spent 4 hrs or so finishing the Bantam Faverolles pen, they've been living in a 4x8 pen. I'm to the point now of just adding on to the previous set of pens. I've still got tons of room, getting ridiculous.
Little Sparky is the one with the bum legs. It might be his tendons like Nana talked about. He wobbles and hops on one leg most the time. Well, my husband drags these wooden boxes home from work by the truckload and they made perfect steps to go into the coop. The Faverolles can all hop right up into the coop but little Sparky needed handicap accomodations so I used the wooden boxes to make steps for him, poor little guy. He doesn't seem to be getting worse though. These little Faverolles girls are sweet! I just love them. In looking at the pictures it would seem I put too much straw in there. There's a hole cut in the pickets that leads into their 4x4 coop behind the fence.I didn't want to take up room putting it inside the pen.

Nice pen and such pretty birds. I just love that creamy color.
Jack got some Wheaten Marans from Mr. Gibson. Those hens are gorgeous.
Someone that showed at Crossroads had some Bantam cochins that color. I forgot what they called it but I call it peaches and cream

Okay our little chick that started hatching at about 11 pm last night is still working on getting out of his shell. The other 5 are not doing anything, I thought a few were rocking last night but haven't done anything. How long do you let them work on hatching before calling them a lost cause? How long do I let the others sit? I don't need the hatcher until Sunday when I more guinea eggs over. So not in a hurry to toss them but wondered if we should hold out hope for them.

ok, taking notes...:)

i've been told as much as 5 days, i'd sure hate to toss one that just hadn't woken up- how strong does the one sound that is hatching? this is a pic of 4 week old lucky, i had to help, cause he was getting weak, i thought he was a goner, but did mouth to beak and he slowly came out of it, i did have to deal with spraddle though- never know it now- put him under the broody when he started to pip and she crunched the shell- and he had pipped at the wrong end

Just candled the eggs.
NanaKat, you have 12 of Bo's blues left, and lsot a few more from Aubrey but not bad only 2 or 3
I lost nearly 65 due to fertility but that should change soon since those males were never on lights they should be coming in by now.

Juat set nearly 200 for myself and have more many more rosecombs coming so with all that should have a decent year already have so many out but honestly expected more by now.. Just the way it goes.. but have a few more months to go to get what I want hatched.
That's a lot of rosecombs! Hope you get some sleep...you deserve it!
12 / 18 is still a good count on Bo's Cochin eggs. He did say that some were 10 days.
And I'm hoping there are some of each color variety on the d'Anvers.

Are any of those in the hatcher pipped?
How is the humidity in the hatcher?
How late are they?
To insure they are getting oxygen, you can use tweezers to make the pip hole a tiny bit bigger and look inside the air bubble...if the membrane looks white, it is dry and you need to increase the humidity in the hatcher.
This is the time I hate in the hatching process. Sometimes the late hatchers need a little help. You don't want opening the hatcher to affect any that are on schedule. But if these are the last to hatch, you can chance helping them.
