Here are our sweet banty cochins that hatched this last week. All but one black one hatched at Carl's the other little black one was our lone hatch here. We know the brown ones are buff brahmas since that is what Jackson raises, but the black and light colors all came from eggs marked "black banty cochin" on the egg carton we bought from the auction. Anyone want to guess their colors?

Cathie, the blues are going to be blue. Whoever marked the eggs probably just marked "Black Cochin" because she knew the eggs were from her Black Cochin bantam. But-if she's got a Blue or Splash rooster in with the Black hen then you can expect to get Blue Black or Splash babies.

The spotty ones you have are a Silver Pencil feather pattern, not sure what breed, where did you get them? could be crossed with anything! JMO!!! Lynn

Yeah I got them from Atwoods. Like I said I'm pretty sure the bluish one is an OEGB. I think one of the spotty ones is an OEGB mix. The yellow ones maybe orpingtons?

Jcat - If you haven't taken them out of the bator yet you might contact a wildlife rehab group or even the zoo to see if they would be interested in hatching them. I used to have some numbers, but last time I had a bird w/ a broken wing I found most were closed down. I can try to find my list again if you're interested.

Ellwood are the water Iris aka Siberian Iris? I arrived late at a church plant sale several years ago after everything had been picked over. Mentioned how picked over the plants were to the lady at the bake sale table and she pointed me to a peach can with what looked like a clump of grass in it. She said no one had shown any interest in it but that it was the best deal in the sale. I bought it, planted it, and the following Spring was rewarded with the most delicately lovely deep blue Iris. I left them at the house in Lawrence, KS but may just dig up a clump when we go back to visit my daughter. They thrive with very little attention and are, like yours, verily beautiful.

Took 3 people but they say can't incubate any eggs that are found in wild. Personally think it is a tad crazy. The state would prefer to let the eggs get destroyed than have a chance. We have turkey season to remove extra turkeys, so I understand not adding to the population.
Wild turkeys are ok to purchase from mail order companies but not to obtain from the wild. So how do they know the difference & how did strombergs get their feeding stock?

Just another fine example of the Government trying to control something that dont mount to much anyway. I have hatched wild goose eggs and I have a sibling with wild turkey eggs in bator now, same scenerio as yours, hen killed. The government is making it to the point a person cant tell the truth without them trying to control it. I for one have just about had it. I served my country, got injuried doing so. I served my state for many years in law enforcement. And now I have to still jump thru hoops to please both of them. Well I better stop for I say what I really think. But I think in your shoes, I would hatch the dang things.
