***OKIES in the BYC III ***

My chickens fell in love with having their feed soaked last summer. We use 3 gal buckets & after soaking (once it expanded) it would be filled about 3/4 way full. It was almost dangerous to walk in the door with the bucket.
I keep telling dh my first broken bone is going to come from the dogs, goats or chickens when I trip & fall.
On the ACV I have always bought it by the gal, this wk I bought a gal that didn't have the mother & I am going to add 1/4 of the gal with the mother to it. The ACV is $15-$20 with the mother. $4 without.
Before moving to this tiny kitchen I use to grind my own wheat flour & always soaked it prior to cooking. Not with ACV just with whatever liquid was in the recipe overnight. Suppose to help your body digest the nutrients better.

Carl this yr is proving to test all mowers to the max, even with oil in them. Sorry yours burned up. DH has put our cub cadet back together 3 times already this yr!

Can I use the Red Cell for horses? I have that but did not know it was safe for chickens. How much do I use? It would be great to be able to use this up. I give it to my dogs a few times a week but very little so it takes a long while to go through it. Can I give it to all ages? Layers? Sorry for so many questions. LOL

That is what I use, horse suplements are great for poultry.
For growing birds or layers either way works great at 1/2 oz per gallon of water. I also use wheat germ oil and "healthy Coat" both horse feed additives.

I have always wanted to grind my own wheat flour just never broke down and bought a grinder.
LOL I am always tripping over some animal here. Usually it is the "its MOM" rush that knocks me over! I will have to go this weekend and find some ACV with the mother. So far I have not found it in Shawnee. If its here I am looking in the wrong places!

This one was my fault no doubts about it.. lack of sleep is not a good thing. We only used it 2 times last year so had spent nearly 8 hrs getting ready and then made two passes around the yard.. the felt pretty stupid, and very agrivated at myself..

If you want gamey, gamey, game use a ringneck pheasant male over your game hens.. Cull every cockrell hatched and put straight on the table. Otherwise you will not have a bird left on your place. Put the pullets back under a game cockbird.

Carl are you pulling our legs, or has this been done before. If you got the first cross to work, would not the F1 be like a mule and be sterile.

Ladyokie try any health food store - whole foods or natures sunflower farmers market on 63rd& may-- across from lakeshore learning in OKC. I always use to order mine from Azure standard. They have a drop outside of tinker-- might have one closer to you. I stopped ordering from azure once sunflower & whole foods arrived. Sunflower market is my FAVORITE.
Ad your babies arrived. I just ordered silver appleyards this wk & all the bad shipping stories scare me. Only ordered birds 2 other times. Both times no problems-- thankfully!

Great! I have the healthy coat in the animal cupboard also. I used it with my mare. Sadly I lost her this last Jan at age 28. She had been with me since she was 3 months old.

I was not good for quite a bit after that day. I never realized I could use my horse items on the birds. I will have to pull everything out and see what I can use!

The F1 males are sterile and meaner than you can ever imagine.. seriously it works and works very very well. You have to cull all the F1 males and breed the F1 pullets back to game roosters. Call if you would like to discuss.

Thanks! I will be going up close to the sunflower market soon. My son's football team practice and have weight training up that way. I can't wait to shop there!
Sending good wishes for a safe delivery of your babies. The lady I ordered from's husband comes up to Dallas every few months. I think I will schedule a pick up with him and drive down. After this I would be a nervous wreck. But things still turned out pretty good for me so I would not worry too much. Or at least try!

Kass, I remember you posted once about giving your babies fermented grains. I have been reading up on this and I am very interested. What grains do you use and how often do you feed it to them? Do you use anything to start the fermenting besides ACV?

Oats, every day they get a scoop. I haven't added anything to it, you don't even need the acv it will ferment on it's own, but if you want to get fancy there are many, many recipes for additives. Be aware it STINKS. I use a 33 gallon trash can (plastic) that way I can put a whole 50 lb bag at once. The only "special" thing I do is not to add chlorinated water straight from the tap, the night before I add the oats I set out a couple of 5 gall buckets of water to let the chlorine "air out" overnight. They love it, the stinkier it gets the more they love it. The chickie doos (baby NN) scarf it down too.
