***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Inside for a break...all 9 trees are plnted...boy ws it a hot job even with the boys drilling the augr holes....2 for each tree. Then had to take out the middle and mix it with a little compost along with the clay under the sandy top soil. Made good use of the wheelbarrow. The auger brought up the clay from 3 feet down so I used it to make the well wall around each tree. Trees haven't wilted so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Roger is watering the garden by hand...says he enjoys looking over each bed as he does. Such a sweet man!

We will go check the crawdad trap and then go to an early dinner...Mexican! in Prague. There is a restaurant there called Juana's. They make more traditional Mexican that is not as salty as the Tex-Mex. Soooo good.

Got too hot to finish the sweet potatoe bed. Will do that Friday. My stress test and echocardiogram are Thursday. Can't have caffeine for 12 hours before the test.

I have fixed my lawn equipment and used it well, the riding mower decided it has made it's last trip around my yard. It is so agrivating to spend teh time to rebuild teh carb., deck, spindles replace belts and change oil just to have it really quit on you. But do have a word of advice.. when you change oil in something, make sure you put oil back in it.. Think I'm going to take a nap and get back to something then look for a new mower.

Don't think I could do 12 hours without Caffine.. Hope your tests go well. We do have stress management aids for you coming out of teh hatcher in a few days though, I really think they need to start writing prescriptions for birds..

Ooh Ooh where is this Juana's? I have got to try it. I love Mexican! It is my favorite comfort food. I used to live down in the Rio Grande Valley part of Texas. I miss the traditional mexican so much. Please share!

Yep!!! I tell them that is how I know I am doing my "mom job" right. If they think I am mean I must be doing it right! LOL
A while back one of my kiddos informed me I was "The worst mom ever!" with an added "So there!" to boot. I just smiled back and told them that nope, I took second and was going for first this year!

I agree Carl! They already write them for dogs, why not chickens!

Kass, I remember you posted once about giving your babies fermented grains. I have been reading up on this and I am very interested. What grains do you use and how often do you feed it to them? Do you use anything to start the fermenting besides ACV?

Soaked Oats works best.. you can also use wheat, and add redcell if you choose. Soak for 2-3 days in water and when they start to sprout feed free choice. This is great during the hot summer as it gives them the additional moisture they need.

Lynn I aint never tried this cross. Let me know what you get. Do you have any blacks?

If you want gamey, gamey, game use a ringneck pheasant male over your game hens.. Cull every cockrell hatched and put straight on the table. Otherwise you will not have a bird left on your place. Put the pullets back under a game cockbird.

Exciting news! I have 12 new babies today!! The chicks I ordered from TX finally made it here.

After a nerve wracking night when they did not arrive yesterday morning and Austin sorting area had LOST them! From what I have been told they arrived in plenty of time for the plane but were put in a different area, then the worker forgot about them.

I was panicking because these were older 10 day olds so did not have that time cushion. The wonderful lady I bought them from had grogel in the box thank goodness. All of it was gone this morning when I picked them up and we had lost one chick. It could have been so much worse. I had even had them held at Norman P.O. so they would not have that extra day in transit. Can you believe the worker at the Norman P.O actually chewed me out for not having them shipped to Tecumseh and refused to stay and witness my opening the box. She said if any were dead it was my fault!! I demanded someone else be present then came home and filed a complaint with USPS.

They are lucky I was more concerned with getting the chicks home at that point than standing on someones desk or you all would have been witnessing my being escorted out of P.O. on the noon news! I had brought wet mash for the babies and water so they ate and drank all the way home, sitting in a big tub in my lap of course!

*In with the good air**out with the bad* Okay I am better now. I will post pics later today of the cuties. I have 4 buff laced brahmas, 4 Swedish flower hens, and 4 extras that the lady sent. They are gold laced and silver laced brahmas. It looks like the one that did not make is was a Blue laced Red brahma. I am over the moon right now and have had to show amazing restraint to leave them alone and let them rest. I want to pick them up and cuddle them so bad!!!

Okay hushing up for now!

Can I use the Red Cell for horses? I have that but did not know it was safe for chickens. How much do I use? It would be great to be able to use this up. I give it to my dogs a few times a week but very little so it takes a long while to go through it. Can I give it to all ages? Layers? Sorry for so many questions. LOL
