Thanks oakie, I don't know if we're going to get more this year. We had had no chick deaths this year till this. I think it's a sign to stop. I'm trying to take care of too much at the same time. Besides, wasn't it you that had the puppies? I'm afraid if I come to your place I might leave with more than just chicks!Oh no!!!! I have some EE's hatching now you are welcome to a few if you want. Not 100% sure what they will look like. We traded a friend for her cool green eggs. The mommas are all EE's but she has 3 roos so not sure who the baby daddies are, lol. But they are hatching out now as I type so I am sure we have a few to spare.
Dang I'm sorry. So much loss on the list lately. Congrats on the hatching though.Good morning okies, well yesterday was every chicken lovers nightmare for me. someone had let their dogs roam free and they came over to my place about
6am and killed all my 2 month old marans and americaunas. There were 40 marans and 10 blue ams. As you can imagine im a little emotional about it. Lots of anger and some regret. You always have feel like its your fault, like you could have done more. On the up side I did hatch out 5 of my bantam blue americauna
I have a question that sounds kind of strange. Can a rooster break a chickens neck trying to breed? My OEGB died yesterday. She was in the chicken yard when hubby found her. just laying there dead. Hubby said her neck looked broken. All the other chickens were fine and I was home all day and didn't hear them get upset. Zebra usually left the small chickens alone, but I noticed him trying to mate with my RIR yesterday and she is way too small/young. He is a big Barred Rock and isn't having any luck trying to mate with the bigger chickens. I think he's trying to move on to the smaller chickens thinking they'll be easier to mate with. Should I seperate him from the smaller chickens?
Oh my God, that's terrible. I'm so sick to death of loose dogs. I'm not sure I could continue on with chickens if I lost that many in one day.Good morning okies, well yesterday was every chicken lovers nightmare for me. someone had let their dogs roam free and they came over to my place about

The males supposedly take FOREVER to grow their feathers in. I swear to God, I didn't know he was a male! It's pretty obvious now though. When you took him they all 5 had the same pretty lacing all down their feathers that were coming in. I thought all 5 were girls. Course 3 wks is pretty early to sex them but they all looked the same then!
That's a good question......I know with a true Ameraucana cross all the chicks are EE's and will lay blue or green eggs. I'm not sure how that would work with an EE since they're already a mixed breed to start with. If she/he's got the beard, I'd call it an EE.morning guys.... i have quite a group coming to the swap next month- question, if the roo is an ee, does that make all chicks EE's? i have a mixed flock.... like a brahma/ee chick, so he he an EE?
