***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Shellie-that must be one tough little quail. I'd definitely leave them them in just in case.
I spent all afternoon tilling up the ground in one of the 10x10 pens and lining the edges all around with chicken wire. I'm going to gradually get all the pens done like that. Would've been handy information last summer to know chickens dig like backhoes :-/ I feel better getting all the old dirt out of this pen anyway since it had adults in it and I'm going to put one of the sets of babies in there in a few months. I'm going to bleach and pine-sol it and leave it sit empty til then. Overkill, I know. But it makes me feel better in my mind.
I'd had these tiny Silver Phoenix pullets outside the past several weeks and brought them in when it got so cold last night. They're so teeny, I think they'll need to be inside awhile longer. I got them at the auction and they weren't planned in any way. But they're so wonderful and sweet trilling at me constantly, I'm so glad I got them. Same with the 2 Spangled Cornish from GotGame. Those 2 girls are way cool!! So sweet & so pretty, they fit perfect in my hand. So many of these birds I got "by accident" are turning out to be favorites of mine. I love it when that happens.

Evening all, having a good day I hope.
Had to share I have a great hatch going at the moment, Blue and Splash Rosecombs, Birchen and Columbian Rosecomb project birds, and many more. I plan to add about 120 to the chick count by Friday Morning. I am going to have slow down soon, the building is full the cages are nearly full, will have to start really using the space more wisely as well as build 3 more pens real soon.
I do have some Golden Birchen OE cockrells if anyone is interested, the boys already have called the Blue Goldens.
Carl? Didn't you say awhile back you were turning off the incubator? I knew it couldn't be true!

And Bill, I meant to post a picture of the 2 little Orps I got from you! These little chunkers are awesome :)) They live with my 3 Silver Laced Cochins that hatched the same time and the 5 of them are a hoot. Thank you so much for them
.

Quote: Thank you for the advice. Yeah I can still plant! I will go to the garden center tomorrow. I also want to plant pumpkins for the chickens. Tomatoes are doing great, eggplant is hanging in there, strawberries are getting eaten by the kids.

Oh cute babies! I love orpingtons. I just cannot find any of those huge ones! I want ones like I saw at the shawnee Show last Dec. Not many, just a few that can pull a plow for me. LOL

So sorry to hear about all the losses this week!!!

Well I guess I need to quit trying to sell my piggies, I got home this evening to find that I have gone from having 2 pigs to having 12 pigs LOL they are so cute I have to go fix some smaller mesh to the bottom of the pen or I will have piglets all over the yard in a hurry...

This reminds me of: This little piggy went to market and this little piggie stayed home This little piggie had a big lunch and this little piggy had none. And this little piggie cried wee wee wee all the way home.

I just knew there was no chance at all! I just happened to go over and look in the bator to try and decide when to take them out and one was fluffed and looking at me. It is so tiny! I can't believe it. I wonder if any more could hatch...I know they usually hatch all together but should I leave them in for a while because of the temp problem yesterday? I can tell you this little one is going to be totally spoiled rotten!
Hope a few more hatch to keep the little one company.

Next month.. I need pullets from this month for the late winter / spring shows.. We will see how well that holds up, 3 years never shut off maybe this year. Its a plan anyway.

Of course it's still going, I need more birds.. as does everyone else. I think this is the smallest number I have had in years.. I need more. The Incubator will most likely keep running, just going to have to find homes for some of the kiddos. and maybe reset some pens since there are some I don't need more of. Oh heck.. there I go, I really need to turn it off at the end of this month.

I have some left over Tomatoe and Pepper plants if you would like them. I also have some additional seed for several things that are no too late to get away with. Call if your interested.

Oh, and melons.. cantelope, watermelon, and a drought resistant watermelon from Arizona.. all are started and ready to plant. I may even have some sweet potatoes.

We got 5 pheasants now. They are sooooo cute!! I walked up to the incubator and and started talking and the older ones just looked up at me like they were interested in what I had to say. lol

I don't mind Elvis being a boy. He can get his own coop when I get things finished around here. If the others are girls I'll put them with him. They are mean to my other chicks so they need there own place lol.

Well the first hatch out of our new to us redwood incubator is in progress! 26 out so far(that I can count lol) and 13 eggs still cooking in there and 6 of those are pipped. One hatched out and looks to still not have absorbed his yolk. Hope he makes it but not holding out hope for him from what I have read. One of my dark eggs from the blanchard auction hatched. They have another day to work on hatching and if I see no progress they are going to the compost pile. I can't wait for Friday to get here so I can get another hoop house built, finish the last a-frame coop and get birds moved to new pens.
