I miss ya guys alot....

Yea I am stoked about the babies coming.. I cant wait to surprize the kids with the Golden Seabright bantams.. the rest of the flock are standard.. Buff's,RIR,NN,PWLH... and the of course whatever "free chick" i receive..

Of course once they arrive I will be happy to share pics :)

poco i had some filers up at my feed store that lisa had but i have ran out could i get some more??

i think it is time to start a list of what peeps plan on bringing and what peeps are looking for
If you'd like me to print and mail some, PM me the address. Otherwise, I can bring some to the Coweta sale.

I agree about the list. If folks start posting on here what they are bringing to NEOCS, as well as what they hope to find there, I can post and then update the list as it grows. I can put the same list on the planning thread in case there are folks from other states who don't frequent the Okies thread.

Mitzi, I love those blue EE's, what pretty babies! We had 5 blue EE's hatched out so far when I left for work this morning.

Christina, I completely understand. Our school is like that out here. If they have a funeral they will let the kids out so the family can use the gym for the services. Used to drive me crazy because alot of times I wouldn't know it until the kids showed up at home early. Thankfully I have no life so I was always home, lol. Look around you may be surprised to find there are more homeschoolers in your area than you would think. I know out here we thought we were the only ones. Then found 4 other families and of course they knew of others as well. We found a new coop just 17 miles from us that we will be participating in next year. The kids are looking forward to it.

Butchered 7 free range broilers today. Cant wait to see what they taste like. 5 were cornish/rock, 2 were from my breeding program. Want to see how they stack up against each other. Aside from the fact the cornishX grew much faster and had a better feed to meat conversion, had a much meatier breast, and were easier to dress I couldnt hardly tell any differance.

Evening all, having a good day I hope.
Had to share I have a great hatch going at the moment, Blue and Splash Rosecombs, Birchen and Columbian Rosecomb project birds, and many more. I plan to add about 120 to the chick count by Friday Morning. I am going to have slow down soon, the building is full the cages are nearly full, will have to start really using the space more wisely as well as build 3 more pens real soon.

I do have some Golden Birchen OE cockrells if anyone is interested, the boys already have called the Blue Goldens.

Good News!! One of the button quail hatched!!!!

I just knew there was no chance at all! I just happened to go over and look in the bator to try and decide when to take them out and one was fluffed and looking at me. It is so tiny! I can't believe it. I wonder if any more could hatch...I know they usually hatch all together but should I leave them in for a while because of the temp problem yesterday? I can tell you this little one is going to be totally spoiled rotten!

Does anyone know of some Coronation Sussex eggs or chicks for sale in Oklahoma? My MIL is still so bummed about not winning that roo at Newcastle. I would love to get her some for Mother's Day. She has been checking CraigsList daily and not finding anything. She really liked that bird LOL.

To the gardeners, is it too late for me to plants corn, okra and some other seeds or plants? I had so many things come up that I could not get it done. I was always taught that by now it was past time to plant. The areas are ready I would just need to get them in the ground.
Thanks for the help.
I will hush now! LOL

With corn I would shoot for late July or early August & do fall corn. Most other summer stuff should be fine, okra, squash, cucumbers, melons can all still be started from seed & some heat loving beans will do well. I put tomatoes in the ground 3 seperate times this yr first time was march 30th & the last time was yesterday. the only thing with the late tomatoes is they may get too hot to set fruit @ their scheduled time but will fruit well this fall. Eggplant loves the heat & it can be put in the ground of you can find plants. Doubt you could start it from seed this late. I was out watering today & trying to prepare myself mentally for the task of staking the 500+ tomatoes we put in the ground. I have to get them staked soon. Lots of them are fruiting. The plants I pruned after the hail storm look awesome now, so glad I kept them. A month from now I will be a slave to the garden & the kitchen. The rewards are so worth it!!
