Sounds like you've got coyotes like we've got neighbor's loose dogs.
That's a beautiful boy. I don't usually like that color pattern but he's a looker.

Too cute! Hey i have some free cockerels you could have....... seems my ee roo runs long on sons...Also, I bought a 2 month old "cockerel" at Newcastle. Listed as a cockerel and looked like a cockerel. Well it has been a few weeks now and the bird has grown but it almost looks like the comb and wattles are smaller. It is not acting rooish at all and has taken up with the little light brahma babies I got from Mitzie. Yesterday when I went to check on everyone "Kingston" was sitting on the light brahmas! They were all tucked up under his wings. Could Kingston be a Queenston? I can post pics if it would help. LOL

Some years ago I kept a sign at my desk, "Some people are alive simply because it is against the law to kill them." The boss made me move it so nobody but staff could see it. No sense of humor. As much as I'd like to let my birds free range, there are too many loose dogs around, and two coyote packs nearby, we hear them across the pasture across the road and back in what we call 'Dead Acres' behind us. (long story, used to be a horse kill buyer there) Also hear the hawks during the day and the owls at night, so enclosed run is my only solution to keeping birds alive and safe.
Heh. I will just leave this right here.

Love it, so true! When you hear your kids say this you know to run and see what is going on.
Beautiful birds! I love those fluffy white ones....Note to self- I do not need another breed!Thought I'd post few pictures of the offspring of Samson and Delilah the Lavendar Cochin Roo and his Blue lady. They are 4/12 hatch. They need their feet washed.
Here is a close up on one of the whites...
And of course the White Coshins Carmen and Annabelle are still in quarantine, but Annabelle is much improved. They should be able to join the flock next week.
The Blues from Bo Garrett are growing feisty
And one of the Blue CWs is beginning to color up nicely
And now for the Buff Columbian pullets and the Spangled OEGB
Be back later...got to go enjoy the hottub....after I feed the dogs and put clothes in the dryer....
He all, been real busy last few days, no time to hang around BYC *waah*
Been a rough week... definitely TGIF.![]()
Hello to names I've not seen before, thoughts & prayers out to those who are going through terrible trials and tribulations, and sorry to hear about all the feather baby losses these past few days/week.
Bill - thanks for sharing that story about Mildred. I'd have loved to see that. Also glad to see Goosey isn't singling me out to pick on! Was getting a complex. *lol*

I have got to get me a sign like that!
You can hear them every night right across the creek, sometimes they'll just nip on over for a look see. I used to free range my birds. Then I used to free range them only when I was home. Then I only free ranged them supervised. Now they have a temporary static run while I try to finish my mobile pen / run system.
Edit: Oh, and thank you. He is quite beautiful. Before I got Dominiques, I didn't like the cuckoo pattern at all. But a really well proportioned Dominique like this one just does it for me.
I'm so glad to hear this. I just had the same netting delivered from ebay only in 6' X 150' as my large run is an awkward shape and with this I can zip tie sections together and shape to fit. Lots of hawks in our area and aviary netting - zoo grade - is incredibly expensive. Also love your metal edged runs. I used lengths of tin roofing sunk 18" around the edge of run and it's working really well. Thank you for giving me a bit of reassurance that I'm not off my rocker doing stuff like this. DH thinks that may be the case -ha!
You got a great start on meeting folks by attending POOPS. We are just a group of folks who like chickens and other varieties of poultry and who try to enable each other in the acquisition of more poultry and any of us ever intended to own.I went to my my first POOPS meeting the 5th and i had a blast every one was so nice. Thanks to every one. I had so much fun.
