***OKIES in the BYC III ***

The lightning was too close last night for safe computer use, so we unplugged our machines and went to bed early. The grassy areas of the pens are a muddy mess, but all the birds seem to have come through the night without too much stress. A few of the little ones are muddy up their legs and on their tummies. I'll be sure these little guys stay in the sun and dry out completely.

People are starting to make lists of what they are bringing to N.E.O.C.S. The most current information is on page one of the planning thread and will be updated there to make it easier to find. I've had people tell me they are bringing baby chicks, hatching eggs, fine art, arts and crafts, pickled eggs, birds of many different breeds, and cages. The list is growing. If you know what you're bringing, let me know and I'll update the list.

If anyone is interested in getting a shirt at N.E.O.C.S., please visit this link and pre-order the style, shirt color, and size you need. Looks like I'll need to turn in my order four days earlier than originally expected. Choices for shirt color include black or red. The design has blue eggs/tuning pegs or peace signs. Small - Large = $nine and XL - 4XL = $eleven

Use the link below to pre-order your T-Shirts. A list will be posted on page one of the planning thread and updated daily until June 7th. I have to place the official order for shirts on June 8th, so please order soon if you want to be assured a T-Shirt on event day.

Let me know if you want to try the Denegard. I can meet you somewhere with some.
It treats pneumonia. There are to strains that affect poultry.
Is you little one having difficulty breathing? Lifting it's head to breath with it's mouth open.
No, they seem to be able to breath just fine. Let me try some of the others first and if they don't help I will let you know.

Morning all, hope everyone faired the storms okay. I don't think we got hardly any rain just alot of wind and noise. Well and the weather radio going off all night, sure made getting up at 5 kind of hard, lol. The dumb guineas wouldn't go into their coop last night so I am hoping they did okay in the storm, I left the door open to their coop in case they changed their minds but I don't think any did. I keep telling myself I am going to train this next batch of guineas better than I did the first 2. It was still dark when I left the house so hope hubby calls soon with an update on how all the birds did.

Sure wish we could attend NEOCS but it falls on our first weekend of fireworks. So everyone honk as you go past us if you take hwy 66 through Chandler. You can't miss our bright yellow fireworks stand out east of the Walmart. Sounds like it will be alot of fun and there will be lots of great birds there.

Well off to get some work done hopefully the day will go by fast since this is my last work day of the week.

getting some coffee in me then have to go get some dirt. mom needs more mushroom compost so looks like ill be getting my work out in with a pallet of that. Then i want to come home and get some more work done on my tractor. looks like we made it through last nights storms ok but have not checked my garden yet.

If it were me I would use the Denagard. The main reason being is that it has Tiamulin as the active ingrediant and should take care of any strains of CRD that is resistant to antibiotics. Plus there will not be a residue left in eggs that will build up a resistance in humans like Pen. or any of the drugs like Teramycin, both of which are used in humans.

Chances are you are seeing a secondary reaction caused by something else, the bird's system gets depressed and then other little nasties can over-ride the immune system.

As far as I know the Tiamulin is the only thing that will knock out Mycoplasm infections and is good for all forms of CRD.

This wind in Oklahoma can affect your egg production, I have noticed a drop in egg production in my flocks when we have really windy days, I think it stresses out the hens and they don't lay, your hens could be starting a molt also this time of year, and if they are you won't get many eggs from the ones that are molting for about 30 days, Lynn

Yep, the wind does hurt egg production. One of my hens was facing away from the wind and layed the same egg 3 times.

If you find shells with one end gone it is either skunks or rodents, no shell it is snakes, a partial shell it is usually the hens. Most snakes will hunt at night when it is cooler and they have darkness to their advantage.

I think that Bill used a minnow trap with an egg placed inside and trapped quite a few new hat bands for himself a couple of years ago.
Do some coons eat the shells? I have chicken, turkey, duck and geese sitting on nests all over the place with the eggs gone over night. No shells left anywhere. So here's my question.

How big does a snake need to be to empty a goose nest???

I had 3 geese setting on about 10 eggs each that were emptied of their eggs.

I'm talking some BIG eggs there!!! Not just an egg or 2 each night. Each nest was emptied totally in one night. Nothing left, Not even a piece of shell. Nothing I know of could get close to their nests without a fight. Whatever it is would scare the goose off the nest, but not a feather was missing.

If it's a snake, it's a big un. That would make one heck of a belt for Bill, to go with those hat bands.
