Who says you can't tame phesants? The 3 I had used to follow me around and eat right outta my hand. Had to watch out for that male tho. He'd attack anything that moved. I love those little friendlys.

Gotta add, they were the BEST grasshopper control ever. From the looks of them jumping in the field, we're gonna have a record supply of grasshoppers this summer.

I posted this on the NEOCS thread but thought I would post it here too...
Will anybody be bringing any true rumpless Aracuanas to NEOCS? I am very interested in this breed but only have room for a couple.

Good morning all, hope your having a good day so far. Just wanted to give an update on "Lucky" our sick little copper maran roo. He seems to be feeling better now. I started him on duramycin Wednesday. He is more alert and is even jumping up to try and roost again. Had to get out a storage container and cover it with a small piece of chainlink to keep him contained and safe from the dog. Hopefully he will continue to get better.

Bill~ are you going to NEOCS? If so, what are you bringing?

I am going, wouldn't miss it. I'm going to have a bunch of stuff...in young birds, a pair of belgian d'anvers, 2 pairs of Wheaten OEGB (roo line), 2 pairs of wheaten Ameraucanas, 1 pair of blue and splash ameraucanas, and some EE. For adult birds, a pair of black ameraucanas, a pair of EE, 1 big black spanish tom, and I've been debating about a buckeye pair. Of course, tons of coturnix quail all colors, probably a few button quail mated pairs....tons of eggs to included Australorp hatching eggs...its hard telling what all else, this is just off the top of my head, lol.

My farm is NPIP, to include the quail, peafowl and game birds ...

Is there anything in particular your looking for? Thanks for asking!

Keeping Ameraucanas and Aracuanas on the same property is like asking the the New York Yankees and Boston Red Socks to be friends, lol! If you read about the breed's history they both come from South America, from the same bird as a matter of fact...but as they got moved to the US and got put into the Standard....there was a great division between the breeders...it took 10 years and several breeders from different states to get the "Ameraucana" added to the SoP.

So you see, the Ameraucana was actually the under dog, which has excelled, imo....very handsome birds.

History lesson over for they day...lol Hope you have a great day! (and good luck in your quest for finding the birds you want.)
