***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Nanakat, I don't think I ever answered about the tomatillo recipes, yes I would like some. I have never grown or eaten it before.

well, the little crushed guy didn't make it, but will file the info for future emergencies, candled the other eggs, 1 is close to hatching, so gave it to dragon the nn - she so badly wants to have one- betcha she'll be confused, shortest brood in history...

- the lame chick is hanging in there, getting vitamins and taping the hock, hopefully it will help- he's a spunky guy! we have been getting an average of 5 eggs a day from the layer flock... so many broodies, or mama's, i gave them all a lecture- no broodies after this batch- it is just too darn hot! and if you are ever bored, toss a moth to a bunch of keets and stand back!!

Well the auction dudes said LF. They are decent sized chicks so I would tend to agree. Only one really objected to the bath, I figure that must be a roo. Only a male would protest a bath that much! They are looking a bit more like chickens today, so that helps. I will get pics tomorrow and post.
Finally got the humidity right and had a good hatch in my incubator this time -12 of 16. One had to be helped out and died soon after but when checking my broodies I found 2 more. One of them is a chipmunk patterened Mille Fleur. That seem to end up being the best patterened adults. I have had way too many light colored Mille chicks this year. They end up being very pretty birds but too light for Mille Fleur project. Breedersgoal is to get Cochins to have the even chevrons of Mille Fleur D'Unccles, - going to take years.
MJ you know I am willing to take some of those light color Mille chicks! I love that color. I am still kicking myself for not buying those buff brahma bantams at Newcastle. They were so nice. I think Scoots took them. I wonder if I can talk him out of them.

Ladyokie, if you are serious about those chickes let me know. They might be the ones that I was trying to bid on but they did not see me bidding.

Quote: I anticipated that question. I used Anson Mills in the past, but their prices are way too high now for their heirloom corn.
So I've found www.Honeyvillegrain.com, has a 50 pound bag of food grade yellow corn for about $45 and shipping for less than $5. They have a variety of grains and flours including gluton free. Corn not used can be stored in the freezer in a sealed plastic bucket.
Lehman has theirs in a 25# bucket, but it looks like popcorn or dried sweet corn. Their shipping is $10.

Todays big goal is to get some weeding done in my veg garden befor the sun gets up and makes it just to darn hot. Got lots of yummy thing growing and im sure it will grow better w/o weeds stealing all its food. Got my first egg plant yesterday. was a lil small but had to pic it. it was pulling the plant over. Think i will use it to make some roasted veggies.
