***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I am canning the first thing ever on my own (not as a girl helping my Gma) anyway it is pickled green beans and I am water bath canning them since I don't have a pressure canner, and the green beans in the garden are going to town!!!! They aren't Gary's favorite veggie so I'm hoping he likes them better pickled.

Nana, for the love of God-I think you're the energizer bunny in blonde :-O How do you run and do and can and take care of critters and cook and visit and do all the things you do??

Hubby just plugs me into the charger every evening for 6 hours and I'm good to go another day.

What are the charcoal grey aphids????? They are on some oats the chickens "planted" and my asparagus beans.
Bad Bad Bad bugs!

Quote: I took Popeye in for surgery for his eye...the pieces that came out looked like halves of peanuts. The problem repeated even with surgery and antibiotics. Lost the eye and then lost Popeye.
Quote: Thank you. She was in soooo much pain each month from the adhesions. She will be much more comfortable now.

Went out to dinner w DH & stopped in goodwill to shop for books. Found a 5th Ed Merck Vet manual. They had a 3rd Ed as well but it was in bad shape. The manual says mites can cause eye swelling. We put a warm compress on the pullets eye & washed it out with allergy Visine & then washed it with tylan 50. Put some antibiotic & hydrocortisone cream around the eye. Figure we will wash it regularly & dr it the best we can. She doesn't seem in distress at all & laid & slept in my lap with the heat compress.
Hopefully she recovers. She is a sweet girl. DD plans on brining 5 dz or so guineas to Blanchard. Think mostly bronze, purple, pearl a few lavenders & chocolates. Hope to see a few of you tomorrow. I don't think we will stay too late, it has been a long week on the farm & only 2 wks until DH goes back to working OT everyday.

Hey there! I'm new and this is my first post. I live in Bixby and have only had chickens for oh, about three weeks. I have so much to learn and have really enjoyed this site so far. I figured this would be a great place to start posting and get to know some of my "neighbors". Who knew chickens would be so much fun!

This is a great place to start and a ton of great folks to help you through your first chickens...I'm a neighbor to the South of you. Just past Glenpool.

What type of chickens do you have? What brought you to poultry?

Well, that's a good question. I have two polish and three sex links I believe. I'm crossing my fingers that they are all pullets. My neighbor has three chickens that I enjoyed going out and watching so my husband surprised me on my birthday with a coop that he built and three baby chicks. I went out the following day and got the two polish chicks. I'll have to post pics of my coop, he did such a great job.
